Dr. Sanjeev Misra, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur in interview with Careers360 talks about MCI regulations. In this interview, the AIIMS Jodhpur director also speaks on increasing PG medical seats as he says that there is need to improve India’s medical education. Read the interview below.

Careers360: How to improve India’s medical education?
Dr. Sanjeev Misra: It is important to appoint good faculty in all disciplines of medicine to ensure proper teaching. To get good faculty, it is important to have a good salary structure for faculty and have an environment of research and teaching. Faculty should be paid additional research allowance, allowances to upgrade their knowledge and sharpen their skills. They should be encouraged to attend conferences also. Modern medical teaching is undergoing a major transition and it is important to have more problem-based learning, more integration horizontal as well as vertical integration in undergraduate teaching.

Careers360: Should PG seats be increased?
Dr. Sanjeev Misra: There is a need to increase them and they can only be done by improving infrastructure in medical colleges, increasing number of faculty positions and providing an environment where faculty is willing to join these teaching institutions.

Careers360: What should be the focus of MCI regulations?
Dr. Sanjeev Misra: MCI regulations should be practical, in sync with modern medical education methods.
