AIIMS PG 2020 Topper Interview ‘I have prepared majorly from mock tests’ says Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, AIR 8 - The announcement of AIIMS PG 2020 result on June 18 brought in moments of happiness and feeling of pride for AIIMS PG topper, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi announced AIIMS PG 2020 result for the July session on June 18 and with 99.973 percentile, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma emerged as a topper and grabbed AIR 8. He is the same person who secured AIR 1 in NEET PG 2020 result and he says ‘ I am more happy today with the AIIMS PG 2020 result than I was on the day when I secured AIR 1’. He backs his statement with the reason that ‘I did prepare a lot for the other exam, but for AIIMS PG 2020, I did not put any special effort and still secured a rank which brings greater happiness to me.’ To know more about Careers360’s interaction with AIIMS PG 2020 topper, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, candidates are advised to go through the article below.
Careers360 - Congratulations on emerging as a 2020 AIIMS topper for Postgraduate. How are you feeling about your AIIMS PG results?
Answer - I was not at all expecting this rank and I am extremely happy because I had not given much effort in preparing for this examination. You can say that this was a matter of luck for me and securing AIR 8 in AIIMS PG 2020 results gives me much more happiness.
Careers360 - Is this your first attempt?
Answer - Yes, this was my first attempt.
Careers360: Tell us something about your background.
Answer: I belong to Dausa district in Rajasthan, but currently living in Jaipur. My father is a professor in Rajkiya Sanskrit College, Jaipur and my mother is a housewife. My younger sister is pursuing MBBS from Rajasthan.
Careers360 - What was your preparation strategy?
Answer - Actually this answer will be a bit weird. The preparation which I did for NEET PG 2020 is what helped me crack this examination too. I wanted to take General Surgery, but a lot of people suggested that I should not pursue this course from a Central University. I had not prepared for AIIMS PG, 5-6 months I did not study, however, I practiced a lot of mock tests. I gave around 50-60 mock tests and I suppose my AIR 8 is a result of that.
Careers360: Which university are you planning to join now since you have cleared both the top rated exams and emerged out as a topper in both of them?
Answer: I am now confused about this. Earlier, I was convinced that I will join Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and I had no inclination towards AIIMS. However, now after securing a rank, every person is telling me that I should not give up my seat in AIIMS. Also, if I leave my seat in MAMC I will have to deposit Rs. 10 lakhs, so I will have to discuss this with family and then decide.
Careers360: Whom do you give the credit of your success to?
Answer: My parents, my teachers, my college, which is SMS Medical College Jaipur, all have helped me ace the exam. Along with that I had prepared from Marrow and DBMCI. Around 60% of my preparations was from DBMCI and 40% from Marrow.
Careers360 - How was your experience of giving the exam amidst the pandemic?
Answer - Norms of social distancing were followed inside the AIIMS PG 2020 exam centre, however outside the centre there was usual grouping and crowd. Also, inside the centres the invigilators were not well aware of how to handle the equipment. Despite that they did their duty well. Even we, as doctors, who know the norms and rules, did hug and shook hands with familiar faces out of excitement. So, social distancing at the examination centre was not much success but was followed to a great extent.
Careers360: Any message or advice for future medical aspirants?
Answer: Do not lose hope and don't get scared about results because once you come in the field of medicine then you must know there will be a lot of exams.
