SRM Medical College Hospital, Kattankulathur has launched Vascular High Fidelity Virtual Reality Simulation, a first of its kind system, for patients in India. This medical simulation system was inaugurated by Dr. T.R Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor, SRM University and Ravi Pachamoothoo Chairman, SRM Group. The system offers realistic training environment for neurology, vascular, cardiac and interventional radiology procedures.
Speaking on the simulation centre at SRM Medical College Hospital Dr R. Thirumavalavan HOD, SRM/Stratus, Centre for Medical Simulation SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre Kattankulathur, said “The SRM/Stratus centre for Medical Simulation is committed to advancing medical education, patient safety and health care outcomes through cutting edge application of medical simulation technologies supported by innovative curricula, contemporary educational methodologies, continuous improvement and rigorous, multidisciplinary research.” He also said “The centre is open to interested members and has provided training to more than 5000 including Medical and Ancillary students, doctors, general public on variety of medical areas spanning from Basic Life Support to Endovascular simulation.”
Medical simulation includes computer-controlled equipments, advances medical learning which helps students to enhance their skills or acquire new skills, perfect procedures and treatment protocols before using them on real patients. A simulation environment allows students and providers to learn, practice, and repeat procedures as often as necessary in order to correct their approach, fine-tune their skills, and optimize clinical outcomes.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. K. Sridhar, Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor (Medical), SRM University said “Endovascular technologies are rapidly evolving, often requiring coordination and cooperation between clinicians and technicians from diverse specialties. Endovascular virtual reality (VR) simulation has evolved from simple bench top devices to full physic simulators with advanced haptics and dynamic imaging and physiological controls. The latest developments in this field include the use of fully immersive simulated hybrid angiosuites to train whole endovascular teams in crisis resource management and novel technologies that enable practitioners to build VR simulations based on patient-specific anatomy.”
According to SRM University, students and medical professionals are showing avid interest in these skill upgrading training program and many have enrolled for training in this new offering.
