Assessing schools in the domain
A key differentiator between global and Indian medical institutes is the quantum of research output, both in terms of publications and intellectual property creation. The best among Top Medical Colleges in India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi can match institutes like University of Tokyo (Faculty of Medicine) or Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore in annual publications (close to 1400) but it has a lot to do to come to terms with institutes like Yale School of Medicine, The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine or The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Harvard Medical School is anyway much ahead of all. IP creation and its protection is not at all a priority among Indian medical schools and the difference with the global counterpart is colossal. Out of the 200-odd medical schools surveyed; less than 10 schools had any filed/ granted IP with the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trademarks in India.
Teaching and learning as well as laboratories form a core part of the domain. Lack of verifiable data has constrained our ability to evaluate colleges on these parameters substantially. We will seek to build in depth data on these parameters. Read on to find the best fit college for you.
