Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka has cancelled the COMEDK UGET medical 2016 entrance exam, which was scheduled to be conducted on May 8, 2016. COMEDK undergraduate medical entrance exam has been annulled after the Supreme Court passed an order on May 6, 2016, stating that all private colleges should accept NEET 2016 score to fill their seats in medical and dental colleges.
According to SC order, no entrance examination shall be held for admissions to MBBS or BDS programmes by any private college or association or any private/deemed university.
Complying with the SC order, admissions to 708 medical and dental seats in 12 medical and 19 dental colleges participating in COMEDK will be done through NEET 2016 score. As many as 1.01 lakh of registered for the COMEDK UGET Medical 2016.
Furthermore, other private medical entrance exams, BVP CET MBBS, PIMS AICET, KLEU AIET and SAAT which were scheduled to be conducted on May 7, 2016 were stand cancelled obeying the SC order.
On May 6, 2016, during hearing plea SC has reserved its judgment till May 9, on a report submitted by Medical Council of India (MCI) pertaining to the on-going issue of implementation of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) by several states.
As per the media reports, advocate Vikas Singh presented the summary on execution of NEET 2016 to a bench comprising of three judges, headed by Justice AR Dave. In the report, MCI has requested the court to allow state governments to conduct their own entrance exams to fill their respective state quota MBBS and BDS seats.
