    • The pancreas is a soft, oblong, glandular structure that lies transversely in the retroperitoneum behind the stomach. 
    • Its head is present in the C-shaped curvature of the duodenum. 
    • The pancreas is a heterocrine gland. It is a mix of exocrine (secreting digestive enzymes) and endocrine (releasing hormones into the blood) functions.
    • It is covered by the serosa or serous capsule formed by external visceral peritoneum and internal dense connective tissue.
    • The main pancreatic duct, called the duct of Wirsung, is formed from smaller ducts within the pancreas.
    • The main pancreatic duct opens into the hepatopancreatic ampulla.
    • The exocrine part of the pancreas is made up of rounded lobules called the acini.
    • These secrete alkaline pancreatic juice with pH 8.4

      • Sodium bicarbonate
