- It is the uninterrupted circle of the protective lymphoid at the upper ends of respiratory and alimentary tracts.
- It consists of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) that produce B and T lymphocytes.
- These produce IgA.
- It is made up of the following lymphoid tissues:
- Pharyngeal tonsils (Adenoids)
- Tubal tonsils
- Palatine tonsils
- Lingual tonsils
