- Platyhelminthes are also called flat-worms because the cross-section of the body is flat
- The body is dorsoventrally flattened
- This phylum consists of planaria, flukes and tapeworms
- These are first to exhibit triploblastic phenomenon, i.e., the embryo shows the arrangement of three germ layers as ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm
