    Quick Facts

    • Photoelectric effect is considered one the most difficult concept.

    • 18 Questions around this concept.

    Solve by difficulty

    Which of the graphs shown below does not represent the relationship between incident light and the electron ejected from metal surface ?

    If \lambda _{0} and \lambda be the threshold wavelength and wavelength of the incident light, the velocity of the photoelectron ejected from the metal surface is :

    Kinetic energy of a photoelectron depends upon

    The threshold frequency of a metal is $6 \times 10^{14} s^{-1}$. Find the kinetic energy of an electron emitted when radiation of frequency $\nu=1.1 \times 10^{15} \mathrm{~s}^{-1}$ hits the metal.

    Photoelectric effect

    The photoelectric effect is the phenomena that explain that electrons get ejected from the metal surface as soon as they are exposed to the light. The number of electrons ejected is proportional to the intensity of the light. Further, there is a minimum frequency for each metal below which the photoelectric effect is not observed. This minimum frequency is known as threshold frequency.

    Formula:

    \frac{1}{2}mu^{2}= hv-hv_{0}

    where

    m is the mass of the electron

    u is the velocity associated with the ejected electron.

    h is plank’s constant.

    v is frequency of photon,

    v0 is threshold frequency of metal.
