About: JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysuru, was established in 1986-87. JSS Dental College and Hospital is recognised by the Dental Council of India and the Government of India. It is affiliated with the JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER), Mysuru. JSS Dental College and Hospital courses are offered at the diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. JSS Dental College and Hospital admission are done on the basis of candidates' scores in the entrance examination.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself.

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: My name is Glenn Mathew Varghese, an intern at JSS Dental College And Hospital. I’m from Kerala and was brought up as a resident of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Careers360: Which course are you pursuing, and what other courses are offered at JSS Dental College & Hospital?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: I recently completed my BDS from JSSDCH Mysuru. JSS Dental College and Hospital Mysuru courses offered are Multiple Value-added courses such as implant, endodontics, aesthetics, CBCT, laser, and many more. At the moment I have enrolled in the endodontics course, which is until the completion of my internship.

Careers360: What process did you go through to get admission to JSS Dental College & Hospital?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: I took my NEET UG entrance examination in 2019 and obtained a management seat through NEET MCC counselling.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio at JSS Dental College & Hospital and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: We have nine departments in our college, with about 10 faculty in charge of the clinical departments each and 6-7 staff in charge of non-clinical departments. Our staff are quite approachable and are always open to teaching us and guiding us in our journey at JSSDCH.

Careers360: What facilities do you have at the JSS Dental College & Hospital campus? What do you like here the most that you feel is unique and differentiating?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: JSS Dental College and Hospital Mysuru facilities available are the CBCT scanning room, Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic, college Operation Theatre and Smile Creation Clinic make JSSDC stand out amongst others.

Careers360: Describe your day-to-day routine at the JSS Dental College & Hospital campus.

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: I’ve lived on campus since 2019 until the start of my internship when I finally decided to move out. Over those 4 years, I’ve had lots of fun with academics/ sports/ making memories in the hostel, etc. One of the main advantages for us is that we have our college and hospital on the same campus, so we can attend to our patients, and travelling to and from college is a lot easier.

Careers360: Does JSS Dental College & Hospital provide an on-campus accommodation facility? If yes, what are the amenities available?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: As an intern, my life at JSSDCH has been rather interesting, as each day poses new challenges and an opportunity for learning. During our UG days. I felt like we lost some clinical time due to COVID, which I can make up during my internship days.

Careers360: How good is the medical facility at JSS Dental College & Hospital? Do elaborate

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: JSSDCH provides accommodation for medical, dental, and paramedical students as well. We have about 5 blocks each in the girl’s hostel and the boy's hostel. We have a large field that can host cricket, football, and volleyball games. JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysuru, also has a basketball court that is open during the night. We have an indoor gym facility and a meditation room. Our college also has an on-campus library, which is open till 11 pm.

Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies available at the institute. Also, mention the popular hangout places on campus or nearby.

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: JSS Dental College and Hospital have multiple clubs/ societies/ committees mainly for the safety of students, e.g. anti-ragging committee, innovation committee, student grievance redressal committee, sports and cultural committee, and NAAC committee. Mysuru is home to many cafes, restaurants, and tourist spots, such as Mysuru Palace, Mysuru Zoo, the Railway Museum, and Chamundi Hills.

Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: We have magazines published in JSSDCH Mysuru by the editorial and magazine committees.

Careers360: Does the institute have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes, ideas, and blogs where they write about their experience of life on campus?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: Our college has a Facebook page as well as an Instagram page on which they keep uploading all the latest events and important updates from our college.

Careers360: Does JSS Dental College & Hospital provide internships? If yes, what is the duration and procedure of the internship?

Dr. Glenn Mathew Varghese: Yes, JSSDCH does provide internships for a duration of 365 days. As interns, we work from 9 am to 4 pm. We are permitted 12 CLs per year and allowed to avail of one CL per month. Failure to attend an internship day will result in an extension.
