The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is the only medical entrance exam for students who want to study medicine in India, like MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses. Every year, the competition gets tougher, so students need to keep up with the latest updates and changes in the NEET UG exam. With NEET 2025 coming up, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Ministry of Education have announced some important NEET 2025 updates and reforms. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the major updates for NEET 2025 and how they impact medical aspirants.
The NEET UG exam major updates are provided below.
NEET UG 2025 registration has stated at neet.nta.nic.in. Aspirants must fill the application form till March 7. The chances of extending the NEET 2025 registration last date is predictable based on the previous year. However, students must fill out the NEET application form 2025 before the specified date.
As per the official notification, the NEET UG 2025 exam will be conducted on May 4 in pen and paper-based mode. The exam date of NEET UG has been announced with an official notice at neet.nta.nic.in.
One of the most significant updates for NEET 2025 is the new NEET exam pattern 2025. As per the NEET exam pattern changes by NTA, section B has been removed from the NEET question paper. Earlier, there used to be two sections in the NEET question paper - Section A and Section B, with section A consisting of 35 mandatory questions, and section B consisting of 15 optional questions.
Until the previous year, there used to be 200 questions in the NEET UG exam out of which candidates had to answer 180 questions. In a major update in NEET 2025, now there will be a total of 180 questions in NEET question paper. Students should note that now they won't have option to answer from optional questions and all the 180 NEET questions need to be mandatorily answered.
In another major update in NEET 2025, the total NEET exam duration has been reduced from an earlier set of 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours. 20 minutes have been reduced from the total time of NEET 2025 exam. This reduction in NEET 2025 time duration is mainly due to the reduction in the number of questions from section B and will increase the difficulty level of NEET 2025 exam.
Since NEET 2024 was surrounded by controversies of paper leaks and cheating, it was speculated that NEET 2025 will be conducted in online mode. However, NTA has announced that NEET 2025 will be conducted in offline mode. Many experts were expecting a hybrid model in NEET 2025. However, NTA through its notification has made it clear that the exam will be conducted in offline mode only.
Amid the talks of conducting NEET 2025 in online mode, it was also speculated that there will be two phases and multiple shifts in NEET 2025 just like the JEE exam. However, NTA has announced that NEET 2025 exam will be conducted in a single shift.
With the updated exam pattern, aspirants must adopt a strategic approach to their preparation. Here are some NEET 2025 preparation tips to excel in NEET 2025:
Understand the Syllabus - The NTA has released the NEET 2025 syllabus mentioning the topics from each chapter of classes 11 and 12. Students should familiarize themselves with the revised syllabus and focus on high-weightage topics.
Practice Regularly - NTA has revised the NEET exam pattern 2025 and has reduced the exam timing of NEET 2025. Hence it is of utmost importance to have a good speed and accuracy to excel in the exam. Solving previous years' question papers and taking mock tests can improve the speed and accuracy of the students.
Focus on Conceptual Clarity - Since there will be no optional questions in NEET 2025, candidates will have to mandatorily answer all 180 questions in NEET 2025 exam. Hence it is important to focus on clearing and understanding the concepts thoroughly.
