About: JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysuru was established in 1986-87 and is located in the city of Mysuru, Karnataka. JSS Dental College and Hospital is recognised by the Dental Council of India and the Government of India. It is affiliated to the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSSAHER), Mysuru. JSS Dental College and Hospital courses are offered at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. JSS Dental College and Hospital admission is done based on merit in the entrance test.
Careers360: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Answer: I am Poorna S Bhat a recent alumni of JSSDCH, I completed my BDS course in the year 2023 and I am a resident of Mysuru.
Careers360: What were the factors that made you choose your institution/ university?
Answer: JSSDCH is one of the best institutions for Dentistry. It has one of the highest patient inflow and most experienced faculty. It is also located in my hometown Mysuru.
Careers360: What are your specialisations and what motivated you to choose your specialisation.
Answer: I have not yet chosen a JSS Dental College and Hospital course specialisation but hope to continue further studies.
Careers360: Please describe your journey till date.
Answer: It has been a fulfilling journey of knowledge and practice with a few laughs and tears along the way. JSSDCH has been one of my important milestones in my journey of Dentistry. It has provided us with the knowledge and techniques to handle Dental and Oral issues with a base of Medicine.
Careers360: What are the key learning points from your college days that have held you in good stead so far?
Answer: The knowledge and practical base provided by JSS Dental College and Hospital will help us tackle issues in the real world. The hands-on additional courses provided the extra boost of confidence to work on patients. The discipline instilled by the institution will provide long term working conditions.
Careers360: Share a few good memories from your college days.
Answer: There are many memories and good times of my college days that bring up nostalgia. My most recent memory would be of the workshop held in Malaysia, it was one of the highlights of my college days and it opened a lot of new experiences and knowledge which helped define my career. Another defining moment would be winning the intra-college basketball championship after 4 years. The friends I gained at JSS Dental College and Hospital were also for a lifetime.
Careers360: What were the extracurricular activities you participated in during your college days?
Answer: I have participated since my first year in JSS Dental College and Hospital, winning first place for photography and continued to participate in sports activities like basketball, chess etc.
Careers360: How did they help in shaping your future and career path?
Answer: The extracurricular activities at JSS Dental College and Hospital helped me be a more outgoing and social team member and provided the discipline and courage required to succeed.
Careers360: How would you describe the support that you got from the faculty and team/classmates? How did it help?
Answer: I had an amazing group of faculty and friends at JSS Dental College and Hospital, they provided both physical and moral support in my time of need. They were present after my arm surgery when I required help and also supported me during my stress due to exams or completion of records etc.
Careers360: What was your placement season like? Any memories you would like to share with our readers?
Answer: JSS Dental College and Hospital Mysuru helped by providing some hands-on course that helped our CV. During JSS Dental College and Hospital placements, the college also provided us with some networks for job offers and helped us prepare for post graduation.
Careers360: Do you believe that constant reinvention is a must and one needs to keep abreast of the updated trends in the field? How best would you describe the process?
Answer: Yes, constant reinvention is a must as that provides a platform for change and helps move the direction of the industry. It also provides new ideas and opportunities that will help the industry in providing better healthcare and a better future.
Careers360: Your advice to future aspirants?
Answer: Dentistry is a vast subject which requires patience and understanding on behalf of the doctor and they should be able to help with patient education and patient care. My advice would be to be understanding of each individual patient.
