NEET MDS Eligibility CriteriaNEET MDS Eligibility Criteria 2018 - National Board of Examinations (NBE) has set the eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018 which prescribes basic admission requirements and conditions which must be fulfiled by the applicants in order to become eligible for NEET MDS 2018 entrance exam. NEET MDS was held on January 7, 2018. NEET MDS 2018 Eligibility criteria carry huge weightage in determining if or not an applicant will be considered for admissions into various eminent dental institutes of India. Eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018 include conditions pertaining to academic qualifications, experience, nationality, etc. which are binding on all candidates aspiring to appear for NEET MDS 2018. Aspirants who appeared for NEET MDS entrance exam were advised to thoroughly go through NEET MDS eligibility criteria 2018, before they began to fill the application form of NEET MDS entrance. NEET MDS is an annual, eligibility cum ranking exam which is a single window entrance for admissions to varied postgraduate dental (MDS) courses in India. As per Dentist Act 1948, no other entrance examination conducted at state or institution level will be considered valid for admissions to postgraduate dental courses. So, it becomes necessary for the aspirants to ensure that they meet NEET MDS 2018 eligibility criteria. NEET MDS Eligibility Criteria 2018


Candidates were required to fulfil following NEET MDS 2018 eligibility criteria to become eligible for NEET MDS 2018 entrance:


Nationality: As per eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018, the applicants should be a citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or a Person of Indian Origin (PIO).


Academic Qualifications: NEET MDS eligibility criteria 2018 states that it is mandatory for applicants to possess a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) degree or a provisional pass certificate in BDS from an Indian university/dental college recognized by GoI (Government of India) as per Dentist Act 1948 or they must possess an equivalent qualification recognized by DCI (Dental Council of India). Candidates must ensure that the dental college they have completed their BDS degrees from, has got recognition from GoI under Dental Act 1948, on or before October 31, 2017.


Internship/Experience: It is necessary for candidates to have completed or be in the process of completing the one-year rotary internship or practical training on or before March 31, 2018. According to NEET MDS 2018 eligibility criteria, it must be ensured that the internship or training is done in a dental college approved or recognized by GoI.

  • Please note that as per eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018, the condition of one-year compulsory internship will not be applicable to the applicants who have passed their BDS final exam on or before 1988 and hold a BDS degree awarded by an Indian University recognized by GoI under Dentist Act 1948 or possess an equivalent academic qualification recognized by DCI. Along with all this, they must also be provisionally or permanently registered with SDC or DCI. 

  • Similarly, as per NEET MDS eligibility criteria 2018, no relief will be given to applicants in one-year internship criteria, unless-

  1. The applicant belongs to the batch admitted during 2007-2008 academic session and have passed a 4½ year BDS degree and holds a 6 months rotary internship certificate; and

  2. The applicant was admitted during the 2006-2007 academic session at Rajah Muthiah Dental College, Annamalai University and has completed 5 years BDS course without an internship. 

Council Registration: In accordance with the eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018, candidates must have a provisional or permanent registration certificate from SDC (State Dental Council) or DCI (Dental Council of India).


Who is NOT eligible as per NEET MDS Eligibility Criteria 2018?

  • Candidates who have not or are not likely to complete their one-year rotary internship on or before March 31, 2018, will be ineligible to apply for NEET MDS 2018 exam (unless they are in exceptions stated above).

  • According to eligibility criteria of NEET MDS 2018, candidates who are not provisionally or permanently registered with SDC/DCI, will not be considered eligible for NEET MDS 2018.

  • If any information provided by the candidate is found to be incorrect at any stage of the admission process, his/her candidature will be cancelled with immediate effect.

  • NEET MDS 2018 eligibility criteria states that candidates who have completed/passed their BDS degrees from states of Andhra Pradesh (AP), Telangana and J&K, are not eligible to apply for admission under All India Quota of 50%. However, those who were nominated by GoI to study BDS from colleges in AP, Telangana and J&K, will be eligible to apply for All India Quota seats. However, they need to sign an affidavit stating that he/she was nominated by GoI to do BDS from AP, Telangana and J&K and send it to Deputy Director (Examinations), NBE, Medical Enclave, Ansari Nagar, Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Ring Road), New Delhi - 110029, along with a printout of submission of NEET MDS 2018 application form. Please note that this condition doesn’t apply to candidates belonging to the category of Armed Forces for ‘Grant of Short Service Commission in Army Dental Corps’ and are planning to apply for MDS in Armed Forces Institutes.

  • Candidates who are already pursuing a postgraduate course might not be eligible for admissions in some universities/colleges, depending upon their respective rules and regulations. Some institutions have rules against admitting candidates who have/are already pursuing a postgraduate degree. Therefore, such candidates are advised to opt for subject and college after careful consideration. Kindly note that NBE will not be responsible if candidates are denied admission in some colleges/institutes.

The online registration and scheduling for NEET MDS 2018 began in the last week of October 2017. Only those candidates who fulfilled NEET MDS eligibility criteria 2018 could fill NEET MDS application form of 2018.
