Careers360: Congratulations on your NEET 2021 result! How are your feelings on this achievement?

Pavit Singh: I am very pleased and of course, there is an aspect of a surprise because I didn’t expect that the paper would go so well. I remember the time I came out from the hall, I just knew my OMR has just not gone wrong. I had no idea of how I had performed. Because of the online situation, the practice of OMR had reduced a lot that also stressed before the paper.

Careers360: What motivated you to choose medicine as a career? When did you decide to become a doctor?

Pavit Singh: My mother is a doctor, from the very beginning I use to go with her to the hospital, as a child, seat with her in the lab. I use to see people coming to her, she is explaining stuff to patients. Of course, at that time that was Latin and Greek to me but now I understand what does that means. I loved math but I always dreamed of being a doctor.

Careers360: Is this your first attempt? When did you start your preparations for the NEET exam? How did you go about it?

Pavit Singh: Yes, this was my first attempt. I started my preparation from class 11.

Careers360: How did you prepare for both your board exams and NEET?

Pavit Singh: The boards luckily got cancelled. I didn’t give much priority to the board, this time they got cancelled. Whatever happened in the school, I gave all that but that was on very short-term preparation.

Science is already covered so you just have to read the NCERT. The English and physical education are tricky but the syllabus was completed before the mid-sem. Actually, there was nothing much more board, my main focus was my NEET exam.

Careers360: How did COVID second wave affect your preparation? What was the most striking thing during this preparation?

Pavit Singh: Online was not a very big setback to me. Even in class 11, I like to study from online videos. So. I was familiarized with all that. The only problem with online preparation is that it was boring. You have your friends and teachers in your coaching and schools, suddenly you are all alone at home. However, online preparation is not a big problem because when you are committed and dedicated you know you have to do this. I know this online preparation is a bit distracting, many times I myself got distracted but I think you have to keep telling yourself about your aim and be motivated.

Careers360: Did you take any coaching for NEET 2021?

Pavit Singh: I have enrolled myself in Allen for the 2-year classroom.

Careers360: How much time did you devote to self-study because coaching can only teach you but you have to do the work?

Pavit Singh: My schedule is not fixed. I love watching TV, I remember I use to watch TV for 3 hours approximately. It does not affect your study, until and unless you waste your time. I use to take breaks, go on a walk with my mother. I never have a fixed timetable.

Careers360: Which subject is your weak one and in which are you strong?

Pavit Singh: There are certain topics, which are strong and weak for me, not any subject. In physics, semiconductors are my biggest weakness. In chemistry, inorganic is used to create problems for everyone.

Careers360: How was the preparation different from the early days to just a month before the NEET exam?

Pavit Singh: Actually, in my case, it was not a month before, it was almost a week before. In the last week, my mother had taken her off. For seven days I was with my mother, we are totally together and I think I have revised the entire syllabus in the last week. I was totally focused during the last week of preparation. The last week’s preparation pushed my level of confidence.

Careers360: What was your exam day strategy? What was the roughest and the easiest section according to you?

Pavit Singh: That day I didn’t study much, I just revised a few topics. A few hours before the exam, I was feeling quite depressed, and too anxious. Then, I went to my grandparents and chatted then I was very relaxed.

Careers360: Which college is your dream college for studying medicine? What is your aspiration in the field of medicine and which specialization would you be interested in?

Pavit Singh: Of course, AIIMS, Delhi. Nothing at the moment, I think MBBS will give a broader idea of what I like, I think I am inclined towards the surgery but again I don’t know if I would like to pursue it in the next five years.

Careers360: What would you suggest to future NEET aspirants in terms of preparation, attitude, etc?

Pavit Singh: You should always be focused and remember your goal, take breaks, There are many times when you feel demotivated, so that is the time you have to find the strength inside of you. You have to keep reminding yourself that I am worthy and I can do this. It is very important to have faith in yourself. You can achieve your goal.

Now considering you as a general category candidate it is difficult to get bams with 245 marks . It depends upon neet cut off . For general category candidate neet qualifying marks are 50th percentile ie score 720 - 164 .

Yes, you can definitely participate in State counselling for NEET UG without participating in All India Counselling.

  • All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling: This is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for 15% of the MBBS/BDS seats in government colleges and all seats in central universities and Deemed Universities.

  • State Quota Counselling: This is conducted by the respective state authorities for the remaining 85% of the MBBS/BDS seats in government colleges and private medical colleges within the state.

Participation in one is not dependent on the other. You can choose to participate in either, both, or neither depending on your preference and eligibility (state domicile for State Counselling).

    I hope it helps!
