The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken strict actions against specific medical colleges because of unethical behaviors, including bribery charges. A significant incident included a senior NMC member who was arrested by the CBI in May 2025 for receiving a Rs. 10 lakh bribe from a private medical college in Karnataka, which resulted in the college being blacklisted. This led to the cancellation of MBBS seat renewals for the 2025-26 academic year at that medical college.
As per the NMC’s MBBS seat matrix provided to the MCC, nine medical colleges in India have been assigned no MBBS seats for the NEET 2025 counselling, including 150 MBBS seats in Jamia Hamdard University. This decision is made to ensure that medical colleges follow the minimum standards set by the NMC, including poor infrastructure and poor quality of faculties.

Some of the impact of this NEET 2025 MBBS seat discrepancy are as follows -
Increased competition - The decrease in available MBBS seats, along with the removal of specific colleges, has made it more challenging for students to obtain MBBS seats, especially in government institutions.
