PGIMER Exam Pattern 2018: Marking Scheme

In order to understand marking scheme of PGIMER 2018, candidates must first clear themselves about basic PGIMER 2018 exam pattern. Let’s understand the basics of exam pattern of PGIMER 2018:

  • PGIMER 2018 will consist of 250 multiple choice questions (MCQs) with five alternatives each. Therefore, PGIMER 2018 exam will have 1250 response options in total.

  • There will be single/multiple correct responses for each question, in such a way that every question will have at least one correct answer and it may or may not have more than one correct answer.

  • Candidates will get positive marking for every response they mark correctly and will get negative marking for every incorrect answer. There will not be any negative marking for unanswered question.

As per PGIMER exam pattern 2018, the percentage score of a candidate will be determined by using following formula:

Percentage Score of a candidate= [x/a–y/b]*100

x= correct answers marked by the candidate

y= incorrect answers marked by the candidate

a= correct options in total (out of 1250 response options)

b= incorrect options in total (out of 1250 response options)

Let’s take an example to better understand markings scheme of PGIMER 2018 exam pattern.

Let’s say PGIMER entrance question paper has been made in such a way that out of 1250 response options, 700 are correct responses and remaining 550 are incorrect. Now, if a candidate marks 600 answers correctly and 200 incorrectly, his/her percentage score will be-

Using above given formula,

Percentage Score of this candidate= [(600/700)-(200/550)]*100 = 49.35%

Kindly note that the figure given above are hypothetical in nature and do not imply real scores of any candidate.

These percentage scores will be converted to percentile scores to prepare the final merit list and cutoff score. Candidates can check detailed information on PGIMER cutoff 2018 from PGIMER 2018 webpage link given above.

PGIMER, Chandigarh will declare the result of PGIMER 2018 within 24 hours of examination, i.e. on May 14, 2018. The result will be released in the form of a merit list and candidates attaining minimum percentile scores (qualifying percentile) and high rank in the merit list will be called for MD/MS counselling sessions.
