The NEET UG counselling 2025 is likely to face a delay due to the recent Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order of NEET exam retest for 75 students. The MCC was supposed to announce the NEET UG counselling 2025 schedule in the first week of July; however, with the MP High Court order, the NEET 2025 counselling date will likely be delayed.
Generally, the NEET counselling date is announced within a month of the result declaration. The NEET 2025 result was announced on June 14, and the counselling was expected to start in the first week of July. However, the NEET 2025 counselling date might get delayed. In this article, we have discussed whether there are chances of NEET UG 2025 counselling delay and factors that might impact the NEET UG counselling 2025 schedule.
The major factor that can lead to NEET 2025 counselling delay is the MP High Court NEET 2025 re-test order. The MP High Court verdict says that the retest will be conducted for 75 students, and their ranks will be based on the scores of the NEET 2025 retest.
The NEET UG counselling 2025 process involves the release of the merit list and NEET state-wise rank list, which is prepared based on the marks scored. This mandatory release of the NEET merit list for the 15% AIQ seats and 85% state quota seats is only possible once NTA releases the scores of all students. With the retest for 75 students, NTA can’t prepare the final merit list. This will eventually lead to a delay in the MCC counselling 2025 for NEET.
The chances of NEET 2025 counselling being delayed are very high. Some of the reasons why the NEET UG counselling 2025 can be delayed are discussed below -
NEET 2025 retest - NTA has to organise the re-test for 75 students in the MP NEET exam centres. Hence, NTA might take some time to conduct the re-test and declare their result later. This all process is going to take some time, possibly delaying the NEET counselling schedule.
Merit list preparation - The MP High Court has clearly stated that the marks scored in the retest of NEET 2025 will be considered for the counselling process. Due to the retest, NTA is required to prepare a fresh merit list, including these 75 students. The NEET counselling process 2025 requires the NTA to release the merit list, which can further delay the NEET UG counselling 2025 schedule.
State counselling - Any delay in the MCC NEET counselling 2025 can potentially affect the state-level NEET UG counselling, as many students participate in both the 15% AIQ counselling and 85% state quota counselling. Hence, MCC needs to align its All India counselling NEET UG 2025 with the Madhya Pradesh NEET counselling 2025.

There have been several instances in the past where the NEET UG counselling was delayed. In recent years, the NEET counselling was delayed in 2021 and 2024. In 2021, the counselling was delayed due to a Supreme Court case regarding the EWS quota, whereas in 2024, the counselling was delayed because of the delay in finalising the seat matrix by the NMC.
