The first and the oldest AIIMS in India is located in New Delhi, the capital city. The foundation stone of AIIMS Delhi was laid in 1952 and it was established in 1956 and got the Institute of National Importance status. Since its inception, it has been a pioneer in medical education and healthcare in India. Recognising the need for more such institutes to cater the healthcare demands, several other AIIMS hospitals and colleges have been established in various regions of the country. To get admission to AIIMS colleges in India, candidates are required to appear for the entrance examinations. Details on entrance exams accepted by all AIIMS in India are provided below.

NEET UG

To secure a seat in the MBBS or BDS programme offered by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, candidates have to sit for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). As per the NEET exam pattern, candidates have to answer a total of 180 multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The NEET syllabus comprises topics from class 11 and 12.

INI CET

To get admission to MDS, MD, and MS degree courses at AIIMS, candidates have to pass the INI CET entrance exam conducted by AIIMS. It is a national level entrance test which takes place every six months. As per the INI CET exam pattern, candidates have to answer a total of 200 multiple choice questions in 3 hours.

AIIMS BSc nursing

To get admission to BSc nursing courses, candidates have to pass the AIIMS BSc nursing examination. This entrance exam is conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi and is a national level examination. The exam duration is 1 hour 30 minutes for AIIMS BSc nursing.

AIIMS Paramedical exam

The AIIMS paramedical exam is conducted by the AIIMS, Delhi yearly at the National level. Through AIIMS paramedical admission, seats are granted in 8 participating AIIMS institutes in India. The exam duration of AIIMS paramedical exam is 1 hour 30 minutes.

AIIMS PhD exam

This entrance exam is conducted for postgraduate students who want to get admission in the PhD programmes and do their research work. This exam is conducted by AIIMS, Delhi every year. The exam duration of the AIIMS PhD exam is 1 hour 30 minutes.

The eligibility criteria for admission to AIIMS in India varies according to the entrance examinations. AIIMS in India offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

Admission Eligibility for UG courses in AIIMS Colleges

• The minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years as on December 31 of the year of admission.
• There is no upper age limit.
• The minimum qualifying percentile required in the entrance exam is 50% for unreserved category, whereas 45% for candidates in reserved category.
• Candidates should have passed their class 12 standard with Biology, Physics, and Chemistry from a recognised educational board.

AIIMS in India eligibility for PG Courses

Candidates aspiring to secure a seat in postgraduate courses in AIIMS such as MD/MS/MDS, need to fulfil INI CET eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria are as follows -

• Applicants seeking admission to MD and MS programmes must hold an MBBS degree and those applying for MDS courses should possess a BDS degree, recognised from a NMC recognised university.
• Candidates are required to have completed the 12 months compulsory rotatory internship and obtain a completion certificate for the same.
• Candidates falling under the General/OBC/EWS category must have scored a minimum aggregate of 55% in MBBS/BDS program compulsorily while those belonging to SC/ST category must have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

AIIMS in India PhD eligibility criteria

• The candidate should have completed MBBS/BDS with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or should have a degree in MD/MS/MDS/DM/ MCh in the subject concerned or Diplomate of National Board of Examination.
• Aspirants holding MSc degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Nursing speciality are also eligible for AIIMS PhD 2024.
• The non-medical candidates should hold a master’s degree (two year’s course) awarded by Indian Universities or equivalent.
• Candidates holding M.Sc. (Other than M.Sc. Nursing) M.Tech. degree, BAMS & BHMS are eligible for the non-medical qualification category. Candidates having eligibility under non-medical category should have at least 60% marks in the last eligibility examination qualified.
