New Rules For BDS Internship By NDC

The new rules by NDS on dispensing the requirement of Provisional Registration Certificate for BDS students before beginning the mandatory internship have come into force with immediate effect. The authority has introduced the following changes:

    • Provisional Registration No Longer Mandatory: BDS students undergoing the Compulsory Rotatory Internship will not be required to obtain Provisional Registration from the State Dental Council before starting their internship.

    • Permanent Registration After internship: The authority has directed the State Dental Councils to grant Permanent Registration to candidates who have successfully completed the BDS course and Compulsory Rotary Internship without asking for the Provisional Registration Certificate.

    • Instruction For Colleges And Universities: The NDC has also instructed colleges and universities not to insist on candidates for provisional registration. This implies that the dental colleges, Deemed universities, examining authorities, hospitals and other concerned authorities not to demand Provisional Registration for the commencement or completion of internship for any academic, clinical or administrative purpose.

Why NDC Removed The Provisional Registration Requirement?

Many BDS students highlighted the challenges they faced in obtaining the Permanent Registration because they had not obtained a Provisional Registration Certificate before starting their internship. After considering the representations submitted by the students, the Board made the decision of dispensing Provisional Registration Certificate requirement. The decision has been taken for the following purposes:

    • Ensuring uniform implementation across all states.

    • Reducing difficulties for students

    • Promoting Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and Ease of Living Initiatives.

    • Simplifying the regulatory rules for dental graduates.

NDC’s New Rule On BDS Internship: Benefit For Students

The decision from the National Dental Commission will benefit many BDS graduates. Earlier, students had to obtain a Provisional Registration Certificate before starting their internship. If they failed, many students faced delays in getting the Permanent Registration after completing their internship. With the new rule, students can directly start their internship without obtaining provisional registration. This will reduce paper work thus avoiding unnecessary delays.
