The NExT is applicable to all undergraduate medical students pursuing the degree of MBBS in all Medical Colleges as approved by the NMC through the Medical Assessment and Rating Board as well as the Undergraduate Medical Education Board, and all Foreign Medical Graduates approved by the NMC for the purpose of obtaining a license to practice medicine as a registered medical practitioner in India and for enrollment.

The National Exit Test (NExT) is a two-step examination for medical graduates in India. The first step is a theoretical examination consisting of multiple-choice questions.

If a candidate fails in one or more subjects, the total marks/percentage of NExT Step I for the candidate shall be calculated from the sum of total raw scores in each subject/paper obtained in both regular and supplementary examinations in which the candidate has secured pass-marks.

The second step is a regular examination, and the scores obtained in both steps shall remain valid for three years for the purpose of determining merit for admission to broad-speciality postgraduate courses.

What is NExT Full Form 2023 passing marks?

NExT Step 1 Passing Criteria:

For NExT Step 1, the passing requirement is set at a minimum of 50% or half of the maximum possible raw scores. In other words, candidates must score at least 50 out of 100 marks or attain half of the highest achievable raw scores in each of the six papers.

This criterion ensures that candidates demonstrate a satisfactory level of knowledge and competency in each subject area covered by the examination.

NExT Step 2 Passing Criteria:

In contrast to the numerical passing criteria of Step 1, NExT Step 2 follows a different approach. The criteria for passing Step 2 focus on the satisfactory demonstration of acquired competencies.

Candidates are evaluated based on their ability to showcase the required skills and knowledge expected at this stage of their medical career. The assessment results in a Pass/Fail declaration, indicating whether the candidate has met the competency benchmarks set for Step 2.
