Know possible Govt/Private MBBS/BDS Colleges based on your NEET rank
The NRI quota in NEET is a reservation for non-resident Indian students who wish to study medicine in India. It provides an opportunity for Indian-origin students residing abroad to secure admission in medical colleges without having to compete with the general pool of candidates. This quota is applicable for both NRI and Management seats in government and private medical colleges.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the single largest highly competitive medical entrance examination conducted in India. It is the gateway for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical courses (MBBS/BDS) in government or private medical colleges across the country.
The main purpose of the NRI quota for NEET is to encourage Indian students settled abroad to return to the country for higher education and contribute to the healthcare system. It also allows admission to students who may not have secured a high rank in the NEET examination but have the necessary financial resources to study in India. Read the full article to know all the important details about the NRI quota in NEET.
Any candidate who is of Indian origin and is studying abroad or has settled in foreign country is categorised as an NRI candidate. Also the individuals who are born in foreign country with parents of Indian origin are categorised as NRI.
To be eligible for NEET admissions, under the NRI quota, candidates need to fulfil certain NEET eligibility criteria 2024. These eligibility criteria are as follows -

There are five Indian states which offer seats under the NEET NRI quota for NEET in both government and private medical colleges in India. All Deemed medical colleges and universities have a 15% NRI quota for NEET.
The first and foremost step for admission through NRI quota in NEET is to qualify the NEET exam. Once the NEET result is declared, a merit list of qualified candidates is published by the authority. Based on the NRI quota NEET cut off, the students have to go through the counselling rounds and secure their fee. The admission process for the NRI quota usually involves the submission of necessary documents, including proof of NRI status, passport copy, visa copy, and educational certificates.
It is important to note that the NRI quota is a separate category, and only a limited number of seats are available under this category. However the admission to medical courses under NRI quota in NEET is easier due to low competition. The number of seats can vary depending on the college and the state. According to the NEET UG NRI quota fee structure, the fee for NRI seats is higher than the regular seats, as these candidates do not avail any subsidies provided by the government.
