The mean radius of the earth is R, its angular speed about its own axis $\omega$ and the acceleration due to gravity at the earth's surface is $g$. The cube of the radius of orbit of a 'geostationary satellite' will be:
A geostationary satellite orbits around the earth in a circular orbit with a radius of 36000 km. Then the time period of a spy satellite orbiting a few hundred kilometres above the earth's surface ($\mathrm{R}_{\text {earth }}=6400 \mathrm{~km}$ ) will approximately be
What should be the period of rotation of the earth so as to make any object on the equator weight half of its present value?
A satellite that is geostationary in a particular orbit is taken to another orbit, the distance of which is twice that of the earlier orbit. The time period of the satellite in the second orbit is
The mean radius of the earth is R, its angular speed about its own axis and the acceleration due to gravity at the earth surface is g. The cube of radius of orbit of ‘geostationary satellite’ will be:

What is the orbit of the polar satellite?
What type of satellite is used for weather forecasting?
Which type of satellite has a lower orbit?
Geostationary Satellite-
That satellite which appears stationary relative to the earth is called geostationary or geosynchronous satellite.
A geostationary satellite will stay the same place above the earth always, such a satellite is never at rest. Geostationary satellite appears stationary due to its zero relative velocity with respect to that place on earth.
It is also known as parking orbit.
So T= 24 hours or 86400 sec.
and we know that the Height of Satellite is given by
So putting T= 24 hours or 86400 sec.
We get the height of geostationary satellite from the surface of the earth
as h = 6R = 36000 km
i.e., in an anti-clockwise direction (from west to east).
Polar satellite-
Polar satellite is a satellite whose orbit is perpendicular or at right angles to the equator.
or in simple words, it passes over the north and south poles as it orbits the earth.
It can also be used as a communication satellite for countries/areas near the poles
where Geostationary satellites have no / Poor coverage.
