Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Where are you from? What makes you want to pursue a B.Sc Nursing? What do you hope to achieve with East Point College of Nursing?

Angel: My name is Angel Jacob, and I’m from Kottayam, Kerala. I am currently pursuing my B.Sc Nursing at East Point College of Nursing.

Choosing to pursue a nursing degree was a well-thought-out decision aimed at both personal and professional growth. Nursing empowers me with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to deliver high-quality patient care. I’ve always had a deep-rooted desire to help others, and this profession offers the perfect blend of compassion and clinical expertise to truly make a difference in people’s lives.

At East Point, I aim to develop into a skilled and empathetic nurse, well-prepared to serve in critical care settings. Careers360: Presently, which course are you pursuing and in which year are you? What has been your most rewarding academic experience thus far?

Angel: I am in the final year of my B.Sc Nursing program. One of my most rewarding academic experiences has been my clinical postings in maternity and pediatric wards. Assisting in childbirth and caring for newborns gave me a deep sense of responsibility and fulfilment.

In addition, being part of rural health awareness programs in and around Bengaluru gave me real insight into the community’s health challenges. Participating in Samskruthi, our intercollegiate fest, also stands out as a wonderful memory where I engaged with students across disciplines and developed leadership skills.

Careers360: Tell us about the course curriculum and specializations offered. Are the learnings more theory-based or practical-based?

Angel: The B.Sc Nursing course is affiliated with RGUHS and follows a structured curriculum combining theoretical and practical learning. Key subjects include Anatomy, Physiology, Nutrition, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Community Health, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics &Gynaecology.
From the second year onwards, we’re regularly posted in hospitals and community centers for clinical exposure. Practical learning is a major component—be it through clinical simulations, hands-on procedures, or direct patient care. The program is very practice-oriented, allowing us to translate classroom knowledge into real-time healthcare delivery under expert supervision.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Angel: Yes, initially, I did face challenges adapting to a new environment and a more rigorous academic structure. Transitioning from school to college was overwhelming, especially in terms of time management and balancing theory with clinical work.

However, with support from my teachers and peers, I soon adapted. The college also conducted engaging online classes during the pandemic using visual aids, group discussions, and interactive content. Faculty mentorship and emotional support during that time really helped me build confidence and manage stress effectively.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Angel: The faculty-student ratio at East Point College of Nursing is very student-friendly. Smaller groups, especially during clinical postings, allow for personalized guidance and effective mentoring.
The teachers are approachable, supportive, and committed to our academic and personal growth. They go beyond classroom teaching by guiding us through career goals, personal challenges, and professional development. Their encouragement and availability make a big difference in our learning experience.

Careers: Does your college help you get internships? Have you undergone one? Share your experience.

Angel: Yes, the college actively organizes clinical internships as part of the curriculum. I completed mine at East Point Medical College Hospital. I worked across various departments—Medical-Surgical, ICU, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Community Health, and Obstetrics &Gynaecology.

Though unpaid, the internship was incredibly valuable. I performed procedures like wound care, assisted in deliveries, administered medications, and developed patient communication skills. It was demanding at times, especially emotionally, but it taught me discipline, empathy, and real-world clinical competence.
