- The Cnidocytes are the stinging cells present in the body wall of the Cnidarians
- Each cnidocyte contains an organelle called nematocyst
- Nematocyst consists of chitinous barb which is filled with the hypnotoxin
- Hypnotoxin is a neurotoxin which is a mixture of Protein and Phenol
- A thread like structure is attached to the barb
- The outer wall of the cnidocyte has a touch-sensitive projection called cnidocil.
- When touched, the thread is fired from the cnidocyte and coils around the prey.
- The hypnotoxin is injected into the prey’s body
