The Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category was introduced by the Indian government to provide reservation benefits to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who do not belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC). Only candidates of the general category who are from the economically weaker sections come under the EWS category. To be eligible, candidates need to have an EWS certificate in NEET.

Factors influencing the EWS NEET Cut off

  • The overall difficulty of the NEET exam plays a significant role in determining the NEET EWS cutoff. A tougher exam generally leads to a lower cut-off, while an easier exam might push the cut-off higher.

  • The total number of candidates applying for the NEET exam also impacts the cut-off. A higher number of applicants typically leads to a more competitive cut-off.

  • The number of medical seats reserved for the EWS category in various institutions affects the cut-off. Increased seat availability can lead to a lower cut-off.

Hello Aspirant,

Scoring 275 in NEET is approximately the 81.5–82 percentile, likely putting you around 500,000–515,000 All India Rank .

With this rank, government BDS seats (including state quota and AIQ) will almost certainly be out of reach -- cut-offs for those typically require 400+ marks.

But you can get admission in  Private Dental Colleges due to you qualify the cutoff of BDS.

As a General category student, expect to get a seat in private BDS programs, though likely at the higher end of the fee spectrum.

If you belong to a reserved category (OBC/SC/ST), your chances improve further, with somewhat lower cut-offs and more seat availabilit y.

Hey!

If you scored 275 marks in NEET 2025 , you're above the minimum qualifying cutoff (around 144 marks for general category), which means you're eligible for general category for BDS counseling. At this score it might be not possible to get a government college , however you may still be considered for some private dental colleges, particularly in states with lower competition and state quota seats, where the cut off can go as low as 250-300 marks ( especially for OBC/SC/ST categories)

Hello Aspirant,

If you secured 416 in NEET 2025 as an OBC female with a valid OBC (NCL) reservation certificate, you do have an opportunity to secure a BVSc (Veterinary Science) seat, especially in state veterinary colleges in other than Haryana or through the All India Quota (AIQ). Here is the breakdown:

  1. All India Quota (15%): From previous years, the OBC cutoffs for veterinary seats under AIQ have been around 400-420 marks depending on the state and category. There is the possibility of obtaining a veterinary seat with 416 marks as you are on the borderline, especially in the later rounds or mop up rounds.
  2. State Quota Other than Haryana (85%): Several other states will accept other state candidates under management/NRI/private seats and some allow OBC reservations for other state’s candidates. Some examples of states are Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu (some states have private colleges).
