FMGE stands for Foreign Medical Graduates Examination. It is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India for Indian students who have completed their medical education abroad and wish to practise medicine in India. FMGE exam is conducted biannually in June and December for Indian and overseas citizens of India. The FMGE is a mandatory exam for foreign medical graduates to obtain registration with the Medical Council of India or the State Medical Councils.

However, candidates with a postgraduate medical degree obtained in the countries of Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States of America are exempted from FMGE. The primary purpose of FMGE is to ensure that foreign medical graduates have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective medical care to the Indian population. FMGE full form in medical is Foreign Medical Graduates Examination. The FMGE exam was first introduced in 2002 by the Medical Council of India (MCI), which is now known as the National Medical Commission (NMC). The purpose of the exam is to ensure that foreign medical graduates possess the necessary knowledge and competency to practise medicine in India. Since its inception, the FMGE exam has undergone several changes and modifications in terms of exam pattern, eligibility criteria, and passing criteria. The exam is conducted twice a year in June and December.

Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are required to fulfil the following eligibility criteria to be eligible for FMGE. These eligibility criteria are as follows:
Candidates must be either an Indian national or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
Aspirants must have obtained a primary medical qualification (MBBS or its equivalent) from a recognized institution outside of India. They also need to possess a valid passport, as well as an eligibility certificate issued by the Medical Council of India.
All the FMGs are required to provide documents in support of the primary medical education from the foreign medical institution concerned.
Application Form: NBE releases the FMGE application form at natboard.edu.in. To appear for the entrance exam, the application form must be filled and successfully submitted before the last-mentioned date.
Release of the admit card: After the registration process, the admit cards of FMGE are released. The admit card is an important document for appearing in the FMGE exam.
Entrance exam: The FMGE exam is conducted in online mode. A total of 300 multiple-choice questions, divided into two parts are conducted. The FMGE exam duration is 5 hours. For every correct answer + 1 marks is allotted, there is no negative marking. The candidates need to secure a minimum of 150 marks to qualify the FMGE exam.
Result declaration: The FMGE exam result is released in a pdf format on natboard.edu.in. The scorecard of the FMGE exam is also released by the authority.
Preparing for the FMGE requires extensive study and preparation. Many coaching institutes and online resources provide guidance and study materials to help candidates excel in the exam. Candidates need to have a thorough understanding of the medical subjects and be familiar with the exam pattern and style of questions.
