Background wave

NEET 2025 new rules for exam centre selection

The NTA has made some changes to the NEET 2025 exam centre selection. These new NEET 2025 exam centre selection changes by NTA are provided below.

1. Increased number of NEET 2025 preferred cities

As per the NEET 2025 centre selection criteria, previously, candidates could select up to two preferred cities for their NEET exam centres. Starting from NEET 2025, now candidates can select up to three NEET 2025 exam cities while filling the NEET application form 2025. This change provides candidates with greater flexibility in choosing the NEET exam city that is most convenient for them.

2. Selection within state boundaries

Once candidates have completed their NEET registration 2025, they are now required to choose their preferred NEET exam cities from within the state of their permanent or present address as per the NEET 2025 new rules for exam centre selection. This policy is designed to minimise travel distances and associated challenges, ensuring that students can reach their NEET exam centres with ease. The NTA has advised candidates to select cities within their own state or nearby cities, discouraging the selection of distant cities in other states.

3. Reduction in the number of NEET exam centre

The total number of NEET-UG 2025 exam centres has been reduced. While there were 557 exam centres in the previous year, this number has been reduced to 552 for the current year. This slight reduction is part of the NTA's efforts to optimise resource allocation and ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.

4. Extended examination centre opening time

Among the other NEET 2025 exam centre changes, the NTA has also revised the gate opening time of NEET exam centre 2025. Previously, centres opened two hours before the examination. For NEET 2025, the exam centres will open three hours prior to the exam, allowing candidates enough time for necessary pre-exam procedures. This move by NTA has been implemented to enhance security and manage the flow of candidates.

5. Flexible allocation of NEET 2025 exam centres

The NTA has introduced a flexible allocation system that will adjust the number of exam centres for NEET 2025 based on the number of applicants from a particular region. This system will ensure that exam centres are not overcrowded and that candidates are distributed evenly across all the available NEET exam cities.

Reason behind NEET 2025 exam centre selection changes

The changes in the exam centre selection criteria have been introduced considering the suggestions from the stakeholders, including students, parents, and educational experts. Some of the reasons behind this change in NEET exam centre 2025 selection criteria are as follows -

  • Reducing travel burden - By increasing the number of choosing preferred NEET 2025 exam centres, the chances of students getting their desired exam centre are high. This will reduce the travel burden on candidates, especially those from rural and remote areas.

  • Ensuring fairness and transparency - The new change in the selection criteria of NEET exam centre 2025 will ensure a fair and transparent allocation of exam centres, minimizing the chances of any bias or favouritism.

Hello Apurva,

If you have received marks only in Biology and belong to the SC category , the NEET exam evaluates your overall performance, which includes marks from all three subjects: Physics , Chemistry , and Biology . It is not possible to pass the exam with marks in only one subject.

Regarding your question about the minimum marks required to qualify for NEET as an SC category candidate, it varies each year depending on the difficulty level of the exam and the number of candidates appearing . However, on average, candidates from the SC category generally need around 120-150 marks out of 720 in the NEET exam to be considered for qualifying.

The cut-off marks for SC candidates may fluctuate yearly, but you should aim for a score higher than the general trend to secure a seat in government medical colleges. Always check the official updates for the exact cut-off after the exam.

Hi apurva

As 300 marks is qualifying marks for neet ug and the bio portion and if you score 360 marks in bioportion you can qualify but it is not good for admission in redeemed institutes. But as sc caste you can try your luck in state college if seats are not filled.

Thanks

Hello Deepa,

With a NEET score of 650 marks in the General category , your chances of securing a government MBBS seat at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bangalore are promising, especially under the 85% state quota .

Expected Cutoff for KIMS Bangalore (General Category):

Based on previous years' data:

  • Round 1 : Approximately 66,000 closing rank

  • Round 2 : Approximately 67,000 closing rank

  • Mop-Up Round : Approximately 67,000 closing rank

Considering that KIMS Bangalore's cutoff ranks have ranged from 20,556 to 25,298 in previous years , and your NEET score corresponds to a rank of approximately 6,000 to 7,000 , you are well within the competitive range for admission under the state quota.

Recommendations:

  • Apply through KEA : Ensure you participate in the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) counselling for the 85% state quota seats.

  • Stay Updated : Regularly check the official KEA website for counselling schedules and seat allotment updates.

  • Prepare Documents : Keep all necessary documents ready for verification during the counselling process.

If you need assistance with the counselling process or have further questions, feel free to ask.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries, then feel free to share your questions with us, we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you, and I wish you all the best in your bright future.
