    Expected Restrictions for NEET 2025

    1

    NEET UG attempt limit

Currently, there are no restrictions on the attempt limit for the NEET UG exam. Any candidate can appear as many times as he/she wants to, provided they fulfil the NEET eligibility criteria.

Among the various expected changes in the NEET 2025 exam, it was expected that there can be a restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can give for the NEET 2025 exam.

    2

    NEET age limit

At present, there is an age limit in NEET UG exam. To appear in the NEET exam, a candidate must have attained an age of a minimum of 17 years. However, there is no upper age limit in NEET UG exam.

As per various media reports, it was expected that there can be an age restriction for NEET 2025. The NEET 2025 upper age limit can be fixed at 25 years.

NEET attempt restriction for SC/ ST/ OBC

Currently, there are no restrictions on the number of attempts and upper age limit for the reserved category candidates, such as those from SC, ST, and OBC categories.

Impact of NEET 2025 attempt restrictions

If the NTA had implied the NEET attempt restrictions for 2025, it may have impacted students in various ways.

    • Planning and strategy- If NTA introduces an attempt limit and age restriction in NEET 2025, candidates would have to plan and strategise in a better way as they will only have a certain number of NEET chances limit.

    • Rising number of aspirants- The NEET attempt restrictions 2025 can lead to an increase in the number of candidates appearing in NEET UG exam. This is mainly because students will have only limited chances to appear for the NEET exam and students who are thinking about skipping one year to prepare better may not have that luxury anymore.

    • Impact on career decisions- Since in past there has been no restrictions in the attempt and age limit, many candidates who score less in their previous attempts tend to skip that year and prepare for the upcoming NEET UG exam for a better medical college. However, if restrictions had been imposed by NTA in NEET 2025, then candidates might have to reconsider before dropping out and may opt for admission even with a low NEET score.
