Among the NEET 2025 latest news and updates on the age limit, RTI activist Dr. Vivek Pandey in an RTI has written to NTA that introducing an upper age restriction in NEET 2025 will directly affect the students from economically weaker sections. He said that introducing an upper NEET 2025 age limit will build pressure on underprivileged students who may need more time and resources to prepare for NEET 2025. The NTA will soon release the NEET 2025 notification, which will provide a clear picture on the upper age limit for NEET 2025.
NEET UG 2025 might see some changes. The Radhakrishnan committee which has been formed to reform changes in the NEET UG 2025 exam has already suggested changing the NEET 2025 exam mode. As per some media reports, there can be an upper limit NEET 2025 age restriction by NTA. General Category Candidates - Candidates must not have crossed 25 years of age as of December 31, 2025.
Reserved Category (SC/ST/OBC) and PwD Candidates - The reserved category students might get a relaxation of 5 years in the NTA NEET age limit 2025. These candidates must not have crossed 30 years of age by December 31, 2025.
The NTA has set guidelines regarding the age limit for NEET candidates. The NTA NEET age limit is based on two main aspects -
Minimum age limit
Maximum age limit
Candidates must meet the minimum NEET age requirement to be eligible for NEET exam 2025. As per the NEET eligibility criteria 2025 guidelines, the candidate must have completed 17 years of age by December 31, 2025. This means that the candidate should have been born on or before December 31, 2008, to appear for NEET 2025. There is no relaxation in the minimum age limit, even for candidates from reserved categories or other specific groups.
This minimum age limit in NEET UG 2025 ensures that students who have completed their secondary education and have enough time to undergo the medical programme can be considered for admission into undergraduate medical courses.
Currently, there is no maximum age limit in NEET 2025. Any candidate can appear as many times as he/she wants to appear for the NEET UG exam. Any candidate who has attained an age of 17 years can participate in the NEET UG exam without facing any upper age restriction. Also, there are no restrictions on the number of NEET attempts.
Previously there was a restriction in the upper age limit of candidates. Candidates above 25 years of age were not eligible for NEET UG exam. Also, there was a relaxation of 5 years for the students belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD categories. In March 2022, the Supreme Court of India removed the upper age limit from the NEET UG exam. This decision effectively eliminated the earlier upper age limit of 25 years for general category candidates and 30 years for reserved category candidates.
In support of this decision, NTA said that by removing the upper age limit, a student could appear as many times as he/she wants to and refused to conduct the NEET UG exam twice a year. However, with lots of reforms going around the NEET 2025 exam, there might be a possibility that NTA might conduct NEET 2025 twice a year. If this happens, then there might be an upper age restriction in NEET UG 2025.
There is no upper age limit for foreign nationals in NEET UG. Candidates from other countries seeking admission to Indian medical colleges through NEET 2025 are exempt from the age restrictions applicable to Indian students. This provision is crucial as it ensures that international students, regardless of their age, have the opportunity to study medicine in India through NEET.
