1. Disease: Syphilis
Pathogen: Treponema pallidum
Symptoms:
- First stage is marked by ulcer or chancre on the genitals, swelling of local lymph glands
- In the second stage, chancre is healed. There are skin lesions, rashes, hair loss, swollen joints and flu-like illness occurs.
- In the tertiary stage, chronic ulcers appear on the palate, nose and lower leg.
- There can be paralysis, brain damage, blindness, heart trouble and aortic impairment.
- In the latent syphilis, there is no evidence of the disease.
Diagnosis:
- Diagnosed by clinical symptoms, microscopic examination and antibody detection.
- Transmission:
- The disease spread through sexual contact and from mother to child.
Incubation Period: 10-90 Days
Treatment:
- It is curable through appropriate antibiotics.
2. Disease: Gonorrhoea
Pathogen: Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Symptoms:
- The pathogen lives in the genital tubes, produces pus-containing discharge, pain around genitals and burning sensation during urination.
- It may lead to arthritis and eye infection in children of gonorrhoea afflicted mothers.
Diagnosis:
- It is done by clinical symptoms.
- Gram staining of discharge and urine culture.
Transmission:
- It is spread through sexual contact, common toilets and clothes.
Incubation Period: 2-5 Days
Treatment:
- It can be cured through use of appropriate antibiotics.
