    Types of Bones

    Bone can be divided on the basis of two criteria

    • Based on texture: Bones can be compact or spongy:

    Compact bone 

    Spongy bone

    Compact bone is hard and compact

    Spongy bone is thin and sponge-like

    It contains yellow bone marrow and possesses Harvesian systems

    It contains red bone marrow and lacks the Haversian system. It consists of a network of thin and irregular bars called trabeculae.
