The National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) has made NEET UG examination compulsory for admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) from the academic year 2026-27. In a recent notice, the authority has asked the UGC to govern all the affiliated universities and institutions to grant admission into BPT and BOT courses through NEET 2026.

There is no limit on the number of times you can take the NEET UG 2026 exam. You can appear as many times as you want, as long as you are at least 17 years old by December 31, 2026, and meet the educational requirements.

NCAHP has requested the NTA to include the details of BPT and BOT courses in the NEET information bulletin 2026. The authority has mentioned some NCAHP eligibility criteria for admission to BPT and BOT courses from 2026 onwards. As per the NCAHP’s notice, admission to BPT and BOT from 2026 onwards be granted through the NEET UG examination. The process will be conducted by state, union territory or university. A general admission process for BPT and BOT seats can be checked below.
Step 1: Appear for the NEET UG examination
Candidates aspiring for admission to BPT and BOT courses must register and fill the NEET 2026 application form. NEET scores will be used for admission into these allied and healthcare programs in the country.
Step 2: Participate in the counselling process
Once the NEET UG result 2026 is declared, candidates will need to participate in the counselling process. The counselling for admission to BPT and BOT courses will be conducted either by state authority or institutional authority. Admissions will be granted based on NEET marks, availability of seats, category-wise reservation and choices filled by candidates.
Step 3: Seat allotment and document verification
Candidates who will be granted seats during counselling will have to report to the allotted institute within the given timeline. Candidates have to complete the document verification and pay the prescribed admission fee to confirm their seat.
Earlier, BPT and BOT admissions were conducted through individual institution tests or state-level entrance exams. Therefore, the admissions were inconsistent with variations in eligibility criteria. Therefore, the NCAHP has introduced this norm, making NEET UG 2026 compulsory for Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy admission mandatory.
NEET is a single medical entrance exam. Appearing for NEET 2026 exam will ensure a common merit standard for all students across the country.
Both Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy play important roles in preventive care and therapeutic support. Screening through NEET will lead eligible students with strong knowledge to take admission in BPT and BOT courses.
