Aspirants who are interested to appear in medical entrance exams have to ensure that they can present proof of passing their secondary and higher secondary (10+2) education in Science with Biology stream (PCB) from any recognized board like CBSE/ICSE/State Board or equivalent.
All the candidates need to surpass the basic criteria of possessing the minimum aggregate percentage which is set by their targeted institutes. This percentage might vary with different universities but is generally between 50%- 60%.
There is an age filter set by certain universities upon the aspirants which implies that the minimum age of a candidate should be 17 years and the maximum should be 25 years for general category aspirants and 25-30 years for SC/ST/OBC aspirants at the time of appearing for the exam.
Once the medical aspirants have cleared the eligibility criteria by proving their higher secondary level education with the expected minimum percentage in the science with biology stream (PCB), they have to opt for appearing in the entrance exams for their desired course oriented entrance exam which can be through the national level competitive exam criteria NEET or university conducted entrance tests like AIIMS MBBS etc.
For admission in a MBBS/ BDS/ B.Sc. (in medical subjects) course candidates must appear for the NEET UG Exam after which the percentile marks and ranks secured by them are evaluated. Based on the evaluation and number of available seats in the desired institute, the admissions are completed for the aspired medical course.
After these exams have been conducted and the results have been released the students whose scores match the cut off and designed seat allotment criteria, are called for various rounds of counselling depending upon their ranks secured to give them a brief idea of what they are signing up for.
Some courses like the diploma/ post graduate diploma, doctorate (Ph.D.) and Certificate courses in the medical field carry out their admission process on merit basis and require a basic eligibility of higher secondary education from a recognised board with the set minimum percentage and in the case of Ph.D., additional graduation course marks.
