A body is moving with velocity 30m/s towards east. After 10 seconds its velocity becomes 40m/s towards north. The average acceleration of the body is
Rate of change of velocity with time.
Formula-
a=change in velocity / change in time
Tips for Acceleration-
It is a vector quantity
Dimension =
S.I unit =
Eg. A car starting from rest accelerates uniformly to a speed of 75 m/s in 12 seconds. What is the car's acceleration ?
0
75 m/s
?
a = 6.25 m/s2
Types for Acceleration
based on the nature of acceleration
There are three types of acceleration
Positive Acceleration-
If final velocity is greater than the initial velocity. For: V2 > V1
E.g- When a bus speeds up.
Negative Acceleration-
When final velocity is less than initial velocity. For:
E.g-When a bus slow down.
Zero Acceleration-
When final velocity is equal to the initial velocity. For:
E.g-When a bus is moving with uniform velocity.
