The displacement Vs time graph is given below which of the following conclusions is correct:
A body is moving with velocity 30m/s towards east. After 10 seconds its velocity becomes 40m/s towards north. The average acceleration of the body is
Rate of change of velocity with time.
Formula-
a=change in velocity/change in time
$a=\frac{v_f-v_i}{t}$
Tips for Acceleration-
It is a vector quantity
Dimension = $L T^{-2}$
S.I unit = $m s^{-2}$
Eg. A car starting from rest accelerates uniformly to a speed of 75 m/s in 12 seconds. What is the car's acceleration ?
$\begin{aligned} & v_i=0 \\ & v_f=75 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s} \\ & a=? a=\frac{v_f-v_i}{t} \\ & =\frac{75-0}{12} \\ & a=6.25 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}^2\end{aligned}$
Types for Acceleration
based on the nature of acceleration
There are three types of acceleration
Positive Acceleration-
If the final velocity is greater than the initial velocity. For: V2 > V1
E.g.- When a bus speeds up.
Negative Acceleration-
When the final velocity is less than the initial velocity. For: $V_1>V_2$
Example- When a bus slows down.
Zero Acceleration-
When the final velocity is equal to the initial velocity. For: $V_1=V_2$
E.g.- When a bus is moving with uniform velocity.
