  • Humans reproduce sexually and are viviparous.
  • The reproductive events in humans include:
    • formation of gametes (gametogenesis), i.e., sperms in males (spermatogenesis) and ovum in females (oogenesis
    • transfer of sperm into the female genital tract (insemination
    • the fusion of male and female gametes (fertilisation) leading to the formation of zygote 
    • formation and development of the blastocyst through the process called cleavage of the zygote
    • Attachment of the blastocyst to the uterine wall (implantation)
    • embryonic development (gestation) which includes gastrulation and organogenesis
    • delivery of the baby (parturition)
  • These reproductive events occur after puberty.
  • There are remarkable differences between the reproductive events in the male and in the female.

Primary Sex Organs in Man:

Secondary Sex Organs in Man:

  • The organs which neither produce gametes nor secrete sex hormones are secondary sex organs.
  • In human males, prostate gland, seminal vesicles, vasa deferentia and penis are the secondary sex organs.
  • In human females, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina and mammary glands are the secondary sex organs.
