Multipolar neurons- These have multiple dendrites and axon.
Pseudounipolar neurons- A single process arises from the cell body and divides into axon and dendrite. Found in dorsal root ganglia of the spinal cord.
Bipolar neurons- It possesses one axon and one dendrite. Found in the retina and olfactory epithelium.
Non-polar neurons- A neuron possesses several branched processes. The demarcation between dendrites and axons is absent.
Unipolar neurons- Neuron possess only one axon. Found only in embryos.
II. On the basis of function:
Sensory neuron- These carry sensory impulses from sense organs to the central nervous system.
Motor neurons- These carry motor impulses from the central nervous system to the effectors.
Interneurons- These are neither sensory nor motor. They are responsible for connecting the two neurons and allow distant transmission of impulses. These are also called relay neurons.
