AIIMS BSc Nursing 2027 Question Types and Practice Approach: If you are preparing for the AIIMS BSc Nursing (Hons.) entrance, the first thing to understand is that this is not a "nursing" paper. It is a Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Biology paper with a small General Knowledge section. AIIMS conducts the AIIMS Nursing exam. Most students want to know the question types, how tricky they are, and how to practise them to score better in the exam. To answer that, we went through a solved PYQ book (50 sample questions) and the 2026 memory-based paper with its practice set. Also checked the AIIMS BSc Nursing exam pattern and syllabus. Read on to find the details.

The (Hons.) paper is a computer-based test of 120 minutes with 100 MCQs.
Detail | AIIMS BSc Nursing (Hons.) |
Questions | 100 MCQs, 100 marks |
Physics / Chemistry / Biology | 30 marks each |
General Knowledge | 10 marks |
Marking | +1 correct, −⅓ wrong, 0 unanswered or marked for review |
Language | English or Hindi |
Post-Basic BSc Nursing is a different paper (70 MCQs, 90 minutes, plus an interview). This article covers only the (Hons.) paper.

Every question is a four-option MCQ, but the style changes by section.
Style | Example | Mostly in |
Direct recall | Which enzyme recognises GAATTC? | Biology, Chemistry, GK |
Concept application | A test cross is a type of immunity. | Biology, Chemistry |
Statement-based | "Which are incorrect?" "All except" | Biology |
Match the following | Plant groups with examples | Biology |
Numerical | One formula, short working | Physics |
Reasoning | Blood relations, seating, series | GK section |
Much of the paper is plain recall, so careful NCERT reading is worth it quickly. The traps are in the wording: "incorrect", "NOT", "except". Fast readers lose marks they knew.
Of 15 Biology samples in the PYQ book, eight were direct recall, three were concept application and four were statement-based. In the 27 recalled questions from 2026, five were "incorrect or NOT" type, two were match-the-following and one was a statement combination.
Plants matter. At least eight of the 27 were plant-based: phyllotaxy, bulliform cells, ethylene, the egg apparatus, Solanaceae.
Small facts are tested. Which cell guides the pollen tube, which hormone closes stomata, which fungus makes which drug.
Topics repeat. In the 2026 recall, synergids and Solanaceae each appeared twice. MTP appears in both books we studied. A list of one-liners helps here.
Start with the: important Biology chapters.
Chemistry. The 15 PYQ samples covered metallurgy, solid state, thermodynamics, redox and coordination compounds, with only one organic question. The 2026 practice set was different: 13 of its 23 Chemistry questions were organic or biomolecules (Cannizzaro, LiAlH₄, SN1, ozonolysis). We cannot say which is closer to the real paper, so do not skip either side. See the important Chemistry chapters.
Physics. Eight of 15 PYQ samples were optics, three modern physics, three semiconductors and one communication. At least nine needed a calculation. The practice set had 19 Physics questions, nearly all formula-based. Physics here is mostly short numericals: one formula, two or three lines of working. Our Physics study guide helps with the plan.
Try these without a key:
(1) skip distance for fmax = 300 kHz, fc = 100 kHz, h = 150 km, using D = 2h√((fmax/fc)² − 1);
(2) magnification for an object 5 cm from a concave mirror of radius 20 cm;
(3) stopping potential for 400 nm light on a metal with threshold frequency 3.5 × 10¹⁴ Hz.
Answers: about 849 km; +2; about 1.66 V.
The syllabus page lists history, geography, culture, policy and scientific research. The books we read also had reasoning: of five PYQ GK samples, two were facts and three were reasoning (seating, series, blood relation). Prepare static GK and recent current affairs, plus a short daily reasoning drill. Current affairs go stale, so never memorise an old answer as if it were still true.
Options you can eliminate | Expected gain per guess |
None | 0 |
One | about +0.11 |
Two | about +0.33 |
This is arithmetic, not an official strategy. Skip questions you know nothing about, guess after removing two options, and read "incorrect" questions twice. With 120 minutes for 100 questions (1.2 minutes each on average), quick recall gives you time for numericals. Questions can be marked for review, so leave a long numerical and return to it.
Phase | What you do |
1. Build the base | NCERT Biology line by line, Chemistry notes with a reaction sheet, your own Physics formula sheet |
2. Practise by topic | Chapter-wise questions and PYQs, statement-based Biology, daily short numericals, GK and reasoning |
3. Full mocks | 100 questions in 120 minutes on screen, reviewed the same day |
Using PYQs well:
Attempt first, then check. Mark each answer sure, unsure or guessed.
Keep an error log: concept gap, careless reading, calculation slip, or unknown fact.
Redo numericals on paper the next day.
Turn every wrong fact into a one-liner and revise weekly.
Never trust a key blindly. Memory-based papers can be mis-recalled, so rework any answer that disagrees with your own working.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
All are four-option MCQs. Biology has recall, statement-based and match questions. Chemistry mixes facts with short calculations. Physics is mostly short numericals. GK includes facts and reasoning.
Yes: +1 for correct, −⅓ for wrong, 0 for unanswered. A blind guess gains nothing on average. Guess only after eliminating at least two options.
Start with NCERT now, move to topic-wise PYQs, and keep full mocks for the last stretch.
