Careers360: Could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us about the programme you pursued at East Point Group of Institutions?

Dr A S Fazil: My name is Dr A.S. Fazil, and I am a proud alumnus of the East Point Group of Institutions, where I pursued and completed my Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT). This rigorous academic program provided me with a deep understanding of human anatomy, physical medicine, and rehabilitation sciences. To complement my classroom education, I also completed a comprehensive clinical internship at East Point Hospital. This hands-on rotation allowed me to directly apply theoretical concepts to real-world patient care, gaining invaluable clinical experience and practical knowledge. The combination of structured academic coursework and intensive hospital postings truly equipped me with the foundational skills necessary to step confidently into the healthcare sector as a competent and patient-centric physiotherapist.

Careers360: When exploring higher education options, what drew you toward East Point Group of Institutions?

Dr A S Fazil: When evaluating options for my higher education in healthcare, East Point Group of Institutions stood out significantly. I was primarily drawn to the college due to its stellar academic reputation and its robust infrastructure, particularly the well-equipped, fully functional multi-speciality East Point Hospital. In the field of allied health sciences, theoretical knowledge is incomplete without strong clinical exposure. Recognising that East Point offered a seamless integration of academic learning and regular hospital postings, I knew it would provide the practical, hands-on environment I needed. This heavy emphasis on practical learning and clinical training was the defining factor that compelled me to choose East Point for my professional journey.

Careers360: Looking back, what were your first impressions of the campus, faculty, and academic environment?

Dr A S Fazil: Looking back at my initial days, my first impressions of East Point were overwhelmingly positive. The campus offered a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that felt conducive to learning and professional development. What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional faculty team. From the very beginning, the professors proved to be incredibly supportive, approachable, and deeply invested in our success. Rather than focusing solely on academics, they encouraged my overall personal and professional growth, creating an environment where students felt confident to ask questions and hone their skills. This nurturing academic ecosystem set a highly motivating tone for the entirety of my undergraduate years.

Careers360: How well did the curriculum prepare you for industry demands or higher studies?

Dr A S Fazil: The curriculum at East Point was highly comprehensive, successfully bridging the gap between textbook education and actual industry demands. It provided me with an exceptionally strong foundation in medical and professional knowledge, ensuring I understood the nuances of physical medicine. Furthermore, the mandatory hospital postings integrated into our schedule served as a vital bridge to the professional world. These postings allowed me to continually upgrade my clinical skills, interact with diverse patient populations, and adapt to the fast-paced nature of modern healthcare environments. This robust preparation gave me a distinct competitive edge when entering clinical practice.

Careers360: Did you participate in any research projects, internships, workshops, or certification programmes during your time at the institution?

Dr A S Fazil: During my time at the institution, I actively engaged in practical learning opportunities to enhance my professional profile. A cornerstone of this development was completing my structured internship at East Point Hospital. This experience granted me immersive, hands-on exposure to diagnosing, assessing, and treating a wide array of patient conditions, significantly boosting my clinical confidence and diagnostic knowledge. In addition to this foundational internship, I regularly participated in specialised clinical workshops organised by the institution. These workshops introduced us to advanced methodologies, giving me a well-rounded portfolio of practical skills even before graduation.

Careers360: Were you involved in any clubs, cultural activities, sports, or student-led initiatives? How did those experiences help you grow?

Dr A S Fazil: Beyond my academic responsibilities, I regularly participated in sports activities, particularly during our annual "Physio Week" celebrations. This involvement was highly impactful, as it allowed me to merge my personal passion for sports with my professional calling. Engaging in these athletic events gave me an excellent platform to explore sports medicine, understand sports-related injuries firsthand, and practice rapid, on-field patient assessment and management. These experiences were crucial for my personal growth, teaching me valuable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and spontaneous decision-making under pressure, which are all vital traits for a consultant physiotherapist.

Careers360: How helpful was the institution’s placement support in securing job opportunities?

Dr A S Fazil: The placement and career support provided by East Point Group of Institutions was highly instrumental in shaping my career path. The institution did not just focus on traditional job drives; instead, it provided comprehensive guidance regarding diverse career opportunities, professional development, and strategic networking. By hosting seminars, professional interactive sessions, and connecting us with industry leaders, the college helped us understand exactly what top-tier employers look for. This proactive mentorship and focus on career readiness gave us the exposure required to network effectively and successfully secure excellent employment opportunities in the healthcare sector.

Careers360: Were there any challenges you faced while transitioning from college to the professional world, and how did you overcome them?

Dr A S Fazil: Transitioning from the protective environment of college to the independent responsibilities of professional healthcare practice was certainly challenging at first. Moving from supervised student roles to making independent clinical decisions for patients required a major shift in mindset. However, as the days progressed, the deep clinical knowledge I had accumulated during my training at East Point, combined with the enduring mentorship of my professors, helped me overcome these initial hurdles. This solid foundation allowed me to steadily build my clinical confidence, refine my patient interaction skills, and successfully establish myself in the professional medical community.

Careers360: If you could go back to your college days, is there anything you would do differently?

Dr A S Fazil: If I had the opportunity to go back to my college days, I would push myself to participate in even more advanced hands-on workshops, medical conferences, and professional development activities outside the standard curriculum. While I am incredibly grateful for the rich experience, invaluable learning, and lifelong friendships I gained during my time at East Point, I realise now how rapidly the healthcare field evolves. Maximising exposure to global physiotherapy trends during student life is highly beneficial. Nonetheless, the education and memories I built at East Point laid an irreplaceable foundation for my current career.

Careers360: What advice would you give current students to make the most of their time at East Point?

Dr A S Fazil: My foremost advice to current students at East Point is to focus deeply on mastering core concepts, staying disciplined with the curriculum, and maximising your time during clinical exposure. Do not view hospital postings merely as a requirement; they are where you truly transform into a healer. Actively building professional connections with your peers and mentors is equally vital. The extensive medical knowledge, clinical skills, and professional relationships you cultivate during your college days will serve as the bedrock of your career, guiding your growth for years to come. Wish you all the very best.
