The NEET 2025 eligibility criteria is applicable to both Indian and foreign nationals. The requirements differ slightly based on the candidate's nationality.
Indian citizens - All Indian nationals are eligible to appear for NEET 2025.
Overseas citizens of India (OCI) - Candidates who have an OCI status as per the Government of India are eligible for NEET 2025. OCI candidates need to upload a certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in the country of their residence in support of their claim as an OCI Candidate, along with their online NEET application form 2025.
Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) - NRIs are eligible for NEET 2025, provided they meet all the other educational and age-related criteria. Similar to OCI candidates, NRI students have to upload a certificate from the concerned Indian Diplomatic Mission in the country of their residence in support of their claim
Foreign Nationals - Foreign nationals may appear for NEET 2025; however, they must fulfil the requirements of the institutions they are applying to. Foreign students are typically required to submit additional documents, such as a valid passport or a Certificate from the Competent Authority in the country of his/her nationality regarding his/her citizenship status.

The age criteria for NEET 2025 is crucial for candidates to determine whether they can appear for the exam. The details are as follows:
Minimum Age - The minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years as of December 31, 2025. This means that the candidate should have completed 17 years on or before this date.
Maximum age - There is no age limit in the NEET UG exam. However, there might be some age restrictions for NEET 2025 with an upper age limit of 25 years, with a relaxation of 5 years for the reserved category students.
NTA has set some educational qualification for NEET. Candidates aspiring for NEET 2025 must have completed their secondary education in a specific stream. Below are the detailed educational qualification criteria for NEET 2025.
To be eligible for NEET 2025, candidates from the General category must have secured at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology combined in Class 12 or its equivalent examination. For candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), the minimum mark required is 40%, and for PwD candidates, it is also 40%.
Note: For NRI, OCI, and Foreign nationals who have passed class 12 outside of India, the minimum qualifying mark is 50% for all.
Candidates should have passed the class 12 examination or an equivalent examination from a recognised educational board.
The candidate should have studied and passed individually in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English in class 12.
Candidates who have completed their schooling from an open schooling system, like the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), are eligible to appear for NEET 2025 subject to the outcome of Special Leave Petitions/Appeals filed by the Medical Council of India. These candidates must ensure they have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/ Biotechnology as their compulsory subjects.
Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12 examinations in 2025 are also eligible to apply for NEET 2025. These candidates must ensure that they meet the minimum educational qualification criteria by the time they appear for the first round of NEET counselling.
The NTA has set certain NEET qualifying exam codes for the NEET 2025 exam. These NEET qualification codes mention the eligibility of a candidate in the medical entrance exam. The students need to mention their NEET qualification code while filling up their application form. The qualification codes of NEET UG are provided by the NTA in the NEET information bulletin 2025. Below is a brief overview of the NEET 2025 qualifying codes -
Candidates who will be appearing in the qualifying examination i.e. Class 12 or waiting for the result have to select this code. However, after the announcement of the result, if the candidate fails, he/she will not be eligible for admission. Students have to submit the relevant documents as evidence of qualifying for the examination.
Candidates who have completed 12 years under the Higher/Secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), which is equivalent to Class 10+2 can opt for code 2. However, the last two years of study must include English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, Mathematics or any other elective as a major subject as prescribed by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).
Aspirants who have passed 10+2 from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or state open school, as a private candidate from state boards; with Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject can apply under NEET qualification code 2.
Medical aspirants who have passed their Intermediate/Pre-Examination degree in Science stream from any recognised Indian University/Board or other body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a compulsory subject must opt for code 3. The qualifying examination should also include a practical test in the mentioned subjects.
This code can be chosen after the completion of pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English after passing either the Higher Secondary examination or Pre-university or equivalent exam. The qualification of pre-professional or pre-medical examination should compulsorily include the practical tests in all subjects.
Candidates who have passed the first year of a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests must opt for code 5. Candidates should also verify that the first-year exam is a university-level exam and they have also qualified Class 12 qualifying examination with the said subjects at a level not less than a core course.
Any aspirant who has passed the BSc examination with not less than two subjects which includes Biology/Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry can choose Code 6 from NEET qualification code 2025 as their eligibility code. Further, such candidates must have passed the Class 10+2 qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
Candidates who have passed any other examination, which is equivalent to the intermediate science examination of any university/board, can opt for code 7 as the exam code. It must be taken into consideration that students must have completed two years of study in Physics, Biology/Biotechnology, Chemistry and English and have passed practical tests also.
There is no specific limit on the number of attempts for NEET 2025. Candidates can appear for the exam as many times as they wish, provided they meet the minimum age and educational qualification criteria for each attempt.
