    Types of Epithelium tissue
    • On the basis of arrangement and shape of the cells, the epithelia are classified into two broad groups i.e. Simple epithelia and compound epithelia.
    • In simple epithelium, the cells are arranged in a single layer and it forms a one cell thick epithelium. It is further divided into the squamous, cuboidal, columnar, ciliated, and pseudostratified epithelium. 
    • The compound epithelium is made up of more than one layer of cells. It can be either stratified or transitional.
    • On the basis of the shape of the cells present in the superficial layers, the stratified epithelium can be of four types: Stratified squamous epithelium, Stratified cuboidal epithelium, stratified columnar epithelium and stratified ciliated columnar epithelium.
