NEET negative marking scheme is an integral feature of the NEET 2025 exam which intends to discourage guesswork. As per the marking scheme, for every incorrect answer, 1 mark is deducted from the candidate’s total score. While unanswered questions incur no penalty, leaving questions blank is often considered a safer option than making random guesses.
Yes, the NEET marking scheme is the same for all subjects. Whether a candidate is answering questions in Physics, Chemistry or Biology, the marking system follows a uniform approach. Each correct answer earns 4 marks, while an incorrect response results in a deduction of 1 mark. Unanswered questions do not incur any penalty and are simply marked as 0.
Apart from the NEET 2025 marking scheme, the authority has listed out certain rules for transparency in the exam result. Candidates can check the below listed points.
Multiple correct answers: If more than one option is correct for a question, candidates will receive +4 marks as long as they have selected any of the correct options.
All options correct: If all options for a question are correct, +4 marks will be awarded to all candidates who attempted the question, regardless of which option they chose.
