Kushitha P. is a skilled and dedicated Imaging Technologist who completed her B.Sc in Medical Imaging Technology from East Point College of Medical Sciences & Research Centre. She currently works as a Medical Imaging Technologist at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru. At East Point Hospital, she gained hands-on experience in MRI, CT, and X-Ray imaging. She assisted in CT-guided procedures such as biopsies, managed patient records using PACS, RIS, HIS systems, and strictly followed AERB safety guidelines.

Careers360: Tell us about your domain and your work profile. Did you pursue the same field professionally or switch?

P. Kushitha: I work in the domain of Medical Imaging Technology. My role primarily involves operating and managing imaging equipment like X-ray, CT, and MRI to help in diagnosing and monitoring patient conditions. I ensure accurate imaging, maintain patient safety, and coordinate with radiologists for interpretation. Professionally, I’ve continued in the same field that initially inspired me.

From an early age, I was drawn to the intersection of healthcare and technology, and I knew I wanted to contribute to patient care through diagnostic services. This passion led me to pursue a BSc in Medical Imaging Technology, and I’ve remained aligned with that vision.

Careers360: Can you briefly tell us about your career path so far?

P. Kushitha: My career began with a BSc in Medical Imaging Technology at East Point College of Medical Sciences & Allied Health Sciences. The programme offered a strong foundation in imaging principles, radiographic techniques, and patient handling. During my course, I completed clinical training at East Point Hospital, where I worked directly with X-ray, CT, and MRI equipment under supervision. This hands-on experience shaped my confidence and skill set early on. After graduation, I joined Manipal Hospital as a Medical Imaging Technologist. My responsibilities include performing diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with physicians for accurate diagnoses. The transition from student to healthcare professional has been rewarding and filled with learning. I’m proud to be part of a field that bridges technology with healing and contributes meaningfully to patient care.

Careers360: Is the industry work different from what you learnt at East Point College?

P. Kushitha: Yes, working in a hospital setting is significantly different from academic training. While East Point College equipped me with a strong theoretical and practical foundation, the real-time clinical environment presents a new set of challenges. The machines at Manipal Hospital are more advanced and imaging techniques and patient positioning often vary. In the workplace, every patient is unique—with different body types, health conditions, and cooperation levels. Time management becomes critical, and we must act quickly and accurately while ensuring safety and comfort. There's also a greater emotional aspect—working with anxious or unwell patients requires empathy and communication. Furthermore, we handle stricter documentation, infection control, and medicolegal protocols. The pressure is higher, but the work is also more impactful. College provided the essential base, but the hospital environment refines those skills into real-world expertise.

Careers360: How has your time at East Point College added value to your life—both professionally and personally?

P. Kushitha: East Point College of Allied Health Sciences played a vital role in shaping me professionally and personally. Academically, it provided a robust knowledge base in core medical sciences and imaging technology. The clinical postings and practical sessions in the radiology department built my confidence to work with real patients. The environment fostered collaboration, and I developed strong teamwork and communication skills—essential traits in any healthcare setting.

On a personal level, I learned discipline, responsibility, and time management. Balancing academics, practical training, and assignments helped me grow as an individual. The supportive faculty not only guided us academically but also mentored us in life decisions. Their encouragement taught me the importance of compassion, patience, and perseverance. P. Kushitha: Yes, I truly miss my days at East Point College of Allied Health Sciences. Although our course was intense and focused, those years were filled with memories I’ll always cherish. One of my proudest moments was during clinical posting, when I successfully positioned a patient for an X-ray without needing repetition—it was a defining experience that boosted my confidence.

I also fondly remember casual moments like sharing lunch with friends, celebrating birthdays, and late-night exam prep. The annual cultural fest, Samskruthi, was a highlight—watching dance competitions, cheering for friends, and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere brought us all together. Even though we were in a demanding programme, our small celebrations and group efforts made college life enjoyable and meaningful.

Careers360: Briefly take us through your campus life, daily routine, and regular activities.

P. Kushitha: Life at East Point College of Allied Health Sciences was a fulfilling journey of learning and personal growth. My day typically began with theory classes in the morning, where we explored subjects ranging from anatomy to imaging techniques. These were followed by practical sessions in the radiology lab or clinical settings, which gave us hands-on experience with imaging equipment and patient care scenarios.

During breaks, I spent time with friends in the canteen or catching up on notes in the library. Evenings were mostly dedicated to exam preparation, assignments, or discussing case studies in groups. Occasionally, we participated in seminars or attended guest lectures. Though the schedule was demanding, it was rewarding—every day taught me something new.

Careers360: Apart from academics, what other activities were you involved in and how did they impact your life?

P. Kushitha: While I didn’t actively participate in many extracurricular activities during college, I was always inspired by watching others take part in events like Samskruthi. I focused more on academics and clinical training, which allowed me to deeply understand my field and grow steadily. This focus taught me discipline, time management, and a sense of responsibility that has helped me greatly in professional life.

Even though I was not on stage or in competitions, observing others and being part of the supportive environment helped me grow in my own way. I learned that personal development doesn't always require the spotlight—quiet determination, consistent learning, and dedication can be just as powerful. This self-awareness and clarity helped me remain goal-oriented and shaped me into a focused, confident healthcare professional.

Careers360: How did you stay updated with industry requirements, and what role did the institute play in that?

P. Kushitha: To stay updated with hospital and industry standards, I concentrated on understanding protocols, patient care procedures, and technical aspects of imaging. Our institute played a key role by providing regular clinical postings that exposed us to real hospital workflows. These sessions helped us learn critical aspects like patient positioning, safety measures, reporting standards, and professional communication.

We were encouraged to be thorough and alert in our approach, which has proved essential in my current role. This early exposure to industry expectations prepared me for a smooth transition from college to professional life. The institute’s emphasis on practical knowledge and clinical readiness was crucial in making me industry-ready.
