No, NEET is not compulsory for the BSc Nursing program at AIIMS. For BSc Nursing admission, AIIMS New Delhi enrol students based on their performance in the entrance examination, conducted in online mode for a time duration of 2 hours. Candidates who want to pursue BSc Nursing programs must be aware of the admission process, eligibility criteria. colleges who offer admission to BSc nursing through NEET. However, some institutes grant BSc nursing admission without NEET. Such institutes conduct their own entrance test to shortlist candidates for BSc Nursing admission.
The merging of AIIMS BSc Nursing exam with NEET exam can be beneficial to candidates in numerous ways. Candidates can focus on a single exam for BSc Nursing admission instead of separate ones. Some of the benefits highlighted by the experts in replacing AIIMS BSc Nursing exam with NEET 2026 are as follows.
Uniformity and simple preparation: With NEET, candidates have to focus on a single national entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses including BSc Nursing. The uniformity in admission will reduce confusion and multiplicity of preparing separate entrance exams with different exam patterns.
Reduces exam stress: Instead of preparing for separate entrance exams, medical aspirants will have to crack just a single entrance test, NEET and secure qualifying cut off marks to secure admission in BSc Nursing program.
Increase college options: Students who appear for NEET do not need to appear in other entrance exams including AIIMS BSc Nursing exam for admission to the reputed colleges. The single entrance option will allow candidates to apply in AIIMS institutes and other government colleges across India.
Administrative ease: Colleges often find it difficult to conduct entrance exams and counselling processes for separate courses. It also requires abundant resources to conduct such entrance exams. The centralized counselling and seat allocation mechanisms through a common merit list simplified the selection process.
Students are anxious whether NEET will replace the AIIMS BSc Nursing exam or not. However, the merging of NEET can have several challenges such as increased competition, higher difficulty and anxiety among students.
Increased competition: Lakhs of students appear in the NEET exam every year. The replacement might bring more candidates to take the exam which will intensify competition among the students.
Higher difficulty: The increased exam difficulty level and highly competitive entrance exam like NEET will create hurdles for nursing students. The NEET difficulty level will pose a challenge to students aiming to pursue a BSc Nursing program in top government medical colleges.
Diverse syllabus requirements: AIIMS BSc Nursing syllabus include subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Knowledge. Instead, the NEET syllabus is based on core Science subjects. The replacing of the AIIMS BSc Nursing exam with NEET requires policy decisions, legal changes and other challenges.
Higher cut off: The increased number of students leads to higher cut off for admissions during NEET counselling every year. The fixed number of seats available in medical colleges increases competition among students which also raises higher cut off to secure admission to top government colleges.
Paper leak controversy: For the past few years, the NEET exam has been surrounded by paper leak controversies and other issues. The NEET mismanagement has somehow created a fear among students and exacerbated their stress levels. The replacing of AIIMS BSc Nursing exam with NEET can pose several challenges to students.
