The NEET UG exam has been postponed in past due to various reasons. Some of the reasons why NEET exam postponed in the previous years are discussed below.
NEET 2024 was surrounded by paper leaks and disparity. To counter such incidents in future, speculations were going around that NEET 2025 might be conducted online. However, the authority made it clear that NEET 2025 exam will be conducted in offline mode only.
To counter NEET paper leaks in future, it was speculated that NTA might conduct the NEET UG 2025 online, then the exam was to be conducted in various shifts due to the increasing number of NEET aspirants every year. As per the media reports, NEET UG 2025 was to be conducted in two phases. However, it is now clear that paper will be conducted in single shift only.
It was expected that NEET exam pattern 2025 would be revised. The NTA has revised the exam pattern of NEET 2025 wherein candidates will have to answer 180 questions in only 3 hours. Due to this change in NEET UG 2025 exam pattern, it was speculated that the authority might postpone the exam date of NEET 2025. However, the chances of NEET UG exam date 2025 postponed are very less due to the changed exam pattern. The optional questions have been removed, and paper timing has also been reduced.
Historically, NEET UG has been postponed only in exceptional circumstances. The most notable instance was in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic led to nationwide lockdowns and disruptions to education systems. As a result, NEET UG 2020 was initially scheduled for May but was later postponed until September 2020. Moreover, NTA conducted the NEET 2020 phase 2 special exam for the candidates who could not appear in the exam in September due to the pandemic.
Again in 2021, the NEET UG exam was postponed to September from the previous schedule of August. However, aside from this unprecedented situation, there have been no major instances of NTA NEET postponed due to other reasons. The exam is generally held on a fixed date once it has been announced, and students are expected to prepare accordingly.
