Ayurveda has always belonged to the roots of India. From centuries we Indians have had a firm trust on ayurvedic medicines and ayurvedic treatments. Not only because it is cheap but because of the benefits it provides to a human being. Ayurveda treatment helps you in prevention of any disease. Like it is said that prevention is better than cure and exactly what Ayurveda medicines are meant for. India is a huge hub in all over India for getting an Ayurveda treatment. In 2020 also the shine of ayurvedic medicines has not died but insist now Ayurveda is used with modern medicinal practices so that patients can get more enhanced treatment.
There are also many courses available in India which provide education and knowledge for Ayurveda treatment. It is similar to what MBBS provides. Students who have interest in Ayurveda can study BAMS which trains people for Ayurveda medicine and its use in modern practice of medicine and surgery. The full form of BAMS is Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. The average fees for this course is around Rs. 10,000 to 50,000 per year.
Many people confuse Bachelors of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery with BHMS which is Bachelors of Homeopathic medicine and surgery. But both the degrees are quite different. BAMS is of 5.5 years whereas BHMS is of 4.5 years. Both of them deal with different medicines and different treatments.
As mentioned earlier, there are many medical colleges in India which provide BAMS courses. Uttar Pradesh is one such state which also has several good medical colleges providing BAMS courses for the students. Candidates from all over India seek admission in the medical colleges here for pursuing a BAMS course as it opens up various attractive career opportunities for them.
Every medical college has certain eligibility criteria which every student needs to fulfill. Eligibility criteria means terms and conditions which a student needs to fulfill for applying and getting admission in the college. If a student or a candidate is not able to fulfill any one of the eligibility criteria then also the student’s application is considered by college administration: -
A candidate should take a science stream in 10+2 with subjects of physics , chemistry and biology. (Math is optional )
The candidate should complete a 10+2 examination with science stream from a recognised board.
The candidate should score at least 55% in their 10+2 examination.
It should be noted that these are the common eligibility criteria which are demanded by every medical college for BAMS. Some medical colleges may also demand more than these criteria. So students should see eligibility criteria of their preferred medical colleges.
The student to satisfy all the above eligibility criteria stated.
After which every medical student needs to give a compulsory NEET examination which is an entrance exam, and it should be noted that for medical degrees this is the sole entrance exam on the basis of which admission is given in all medical colleges of India.
Students need to appear for NEET entrance or else they will not get admission in any medical college.
After appearing for NEET entrance exam the results are declared by NTA on their official website.
After which all nationwide NEET counselling is conducted and according to the results obtained of students in NEET examination , seats are allotted in various colleges according to the cut-off declared by the medical colleges.
15% seats are for nationwide seats and rest 85% is for state wise. If a student does not get seats through national counselling, then they have to enrol for state counselling.
After all this final enrollment and other facilities take place.
BAMS is a 5.5 year undergraduate course which combines modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. It has 6 months of mandatory internship included with it. Subjects such as ayurvedic philosophy, history of Ayurveda, general surgery, Panchakarma etc. It trains one for studying Ayurveda medicine.
There is as such no specialization available for BAMS. Only course available for the undergraduate program of Ayurveda is BAMS with no specializations.
