Paediatric Nursing is one of the most scoring subjects in NORCET Stage 1, if you study the right topics. Most aspirants read the full paediatric syllabus with no order. They spend equal time on every chapter. This wastes hours on low-weight topics and leaves less time for the ones that actually appear again and again. This article gives you the real high-weightage topics in Paediatric Nursing for NORCET Stage 1.

We took 40 real Paediatric Nursing questions from five previous year NORCET papers, 2020 to 2024, tagged each one to its exact chapter, and counted the results. Below is a chapter-wise breakdown of where these marks actually come from and the exact topics that repeat across different years. Use this for NORCET Stage 1 Paediatric Nursing revision around real exam patterns, not general assumptions.
NORCET Stage 1 tests you across the full nursing syllabus. Paediatric Nursing is one of the core subjects in this stage. In our data, it made up 40 out of 446 questions, close to 9% of the total paper. That is a solid, scoring share, if you know where to focus.
Paediatric Nursing also rewards direct, fact-based study. Most questions ask for a specific value, a specific vaccine, or a specific age milestone. There is very little scoring area. This makes it one of the easiest subjects to convert into sure marks, once you know which chapters to revise first.

We used five real AIIMS NORCET previous year papers, 2020 to 2024, containing 446 questions in total. Each Paediatric Nursing question was pulled out and tagged to a specific chapter, based on its content. A question about DPT or BCG was tagged under Immunisation. A question about a newborn's reflex or hemoglobin level was tagged under Neonatal Care. We did this for all 40 Paediatric Nursing questions found in the five papers.
Paediatric Nursing questions appear in both stages: Stage 1 or Stage 2, in a similar style. So this data reflects the pattern of real NORCET paediatric questions overall, which is the most reliable guide we have for what Stage 1 is likely to ask.
Here is how the 40 Paediatric Nursing questions split across chapters.
Chapter | Questions | Share of Paediatric Nursing |
Neonatal Care | 10 | 25% |
Immunisation and Vaccination | 8 | 20% |
Growth, Development, and Nutrition | 5 | 12.5% |
Child Health Programmes | 1 | 2.5% |
Other paediatric topics (emergency care, reasoning-based) | 16 | 40% |
Neonatal Care and Immunisation together make up almost half of all Paediatric Nursing questions. These two chapters deserve your first pass of revision.
Neonatal Care is the top chapter in Paediatric Nursing, at 25% of all questions. These questions test specific facts about newborn babies, in the first hours and days of life.
Real topics that came up in past papers include:
Kangaroo mother care and its benefits
Phototherapy for newborn jaundice
Normal newborn hemoglobin level
Cannula size used in a newborn
Neonatal reflexes, such as the rooting reflex
Assessing gestational age in a preterm infant
The transillumination procedure
These are short, direct facts. Make a one-page revision sheet for newborn normal values and reflexes. This chapter rewards memory work more than reasoning.
Immunisation is the second-biggest chapter, at 20% of Paediatric Nursing questions. This chapter also has the clearest repeat pattern across years.
A question on which vaccine can be frozen appeared in the 2020 paper. A near-identical question, on a vaccine that stays potent even when frozen, appeared again in the 2022 paper. This is a genuine repeat, two years apart, and it points to a wider pattern: vaccine storage, heat sensitivity, and cold chain facts come up often.
Other real topics from past papers:
BCG vaccine and its scar mark
MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine facts
The most heat-sensitive vaccine
Deactivated whole virion vaccines
What to do if a DPT vial shows granules
Build a simple table for every vaccine in the immunisation schedule. Note its storage temperature, whether it can be frozen, and what a normal versus abnormal vial looks like. This single table can cover most of this chapter.
This chapter made up 12.5% of Paediatric Nursing questions. It tests milestones, deficiency disorders, and growth criteria.
Real topics include:
The meaning of stunting
Criteria for low birth weight
The vitamin deficiency behind rickets
The age by which birth weight quadruples
The most common cause of infant mortality in India
These questions have one correct number or one correct term. Learn the exact figures. Do not rely on approximate memory here.
Our "Other" bucket held 40% of Paediatric Nursing questions. Many of these were not random. A clear pattern sits inside this group: paediatric emergency care and resuscitation.
Across the five papers, we found repeated questions on:
The compression-to-ventilation ratio in infant CPR
The correct method to manage choking in an infant
The endotracheal tube size formula for a child
The CPR ratio topic appeared in both the 2022 and 2023 papers, in slightly different wording. This confirms it as a genuine repeat area, not a one-off question. If you only remember one number from paediatric emergency care, make it the infant CPR compression-to-ventilation ratio.
This chapter had the smallest share in our data, just one question, on IMNCI danger signs in a sick baby. A small share does not mean zero importance. IMNCI is a standard topic in every nursing syllabus, and it is worth one focused read, even if past-paper presence is low.
Based on real cross-year matches in our data, these topics are worth extra attention:
Vaccine cold chain and freeze tolerance (2020 and 2022)
Infant CPR compression-to-ventilation ratio (2022 and 2023)
Newborn normal values: hemoglobin, cannula size, reflexes
Growth and nutrition deficiency disorders
These are not one-time questions. They reflect a pattern the exam returns to.
Start with Neonatal Care and Immunisation, since together they cover close to half of all Paediatric Nursing marks. Build short fact tables for both: one for newborn normal values and reflexes, one for the vaccine schedule and storage rules. Move to Growth, Development, and Nutrition next, and learn the exact numbers, not rounded ones. Finish with paediatric emergency care, especially the CPR ratio and choking management steps, since these repeat across years but are often left for the last day.
This chapter-first approach fits directly into a wider study plan. See our AIIMS NORCET 11 subject-wise revision plan for a full six-week schedule that places Paediatric Nursing at the right point in your timeline.
This chapter breakdown comes from tagging 40 real Paediatric Nursing memory based questions, found across five previous year NORCET papers. It is not an official AIIMS weightage chart. Exam patterns can shift. So, treat this as a strong starting point for your revision, not a fixed guarantee of what NORCET 11 2026 will ask.
