Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, FMGE is a screening test for medical graduates to become eligible to practice medicine in the country. The FMGE test is conducted twice in June and December sessions. Conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), FMGE exam is mandatory for Indian and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) for obtaining the registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council (SMC).

To qualify FMGE, candidates often get confused on the number of attempts for FMGE. As the exam is considered tough with a high level of difficulty, most foreign medical graduates fail to crack in their first attempt. The FMGE attempt limit has always been a major doubt among the students. However, it must be noted that there are no restrictions on the number of attempts. Candidates who fail to clear the FMGE exam in the June session can reappear in the December session to pass the exam. However, the FMGE eligibility criteria requires aspirants who hold an MBBS degree from the recognised institution. There is no limit on the number of attempts in the FMGE exam for the eligible candidates. Medical graduates can appear as many times they wish. The NBE has not yet made any restriction on the FMGE attempts. The conducting body allows candidates to take the exam until they pass and avail the medical license to practice medicine. Every year, thousands of students take the FMGE exam and only few students are declared qualified. The exam is held for Indian and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who possess a medical degree outside India and want to practise medicine in India.
FMGE attempt limit refers to the number of attempts a candidate can take the exam. As per the FMGE information bulletin, there is no restriction on the number of attempts for the FMGE exam. However, candidates who qualify the FMGE are not eligible to take the exam again.
There is no age limit for candidates in the FMGE exam. Medical graduates must be an Indian or OCI (Overseas Citizens of India). The authority has not set up any age limit for the candidates. Unlike other entrance exams, there is no minimum age limit also. Candidates who have primary medical qualification confirmed by the concerned Indian Embassy of that country are eligible to appear in the test.
The NBE releases the exam pattern of FMGE. The exam consists of two parts - Part A and B. Each paper have a total timing of 2 hours and 30. The exam paper consists of 300 multiple-choice questions. Candidates need to obtain 150 marks to qualify for the exam. As per FMGE marking scheme, 1 mark is given for each correct answer and there is no negative marks for incorrect answers.
