With the Medical Counselling Committee, MCC, extending NEET 2025 counselling over and over again, the frustration among medical aspirants has built up. What was supposed to be a smooth and timely admission process has turned into a long wait with repeated extensions and no clear end. The MCC has extended the NEET 2025 counselling round one choice filling for the 6th time till August 11. While MCC has not given a single official reason for every push, it is likely due to pending court cases or technical issues with the portal.

The NEET counselling was dragged the previous year as well, when many first year students ended up joining their MBBS or BDS courses almost two months late, which left colleges with no choice but to squeeze the MBBS syllabus into a shorter time frame. This year seems to be heading in the same direction. According to the NMC notice, the academic session for the 2025 batch was supposed to begin on September 5, but with the NEET counselling still incomplete, that start date is now impossible.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the NEET 2025 counselling delay is the disruption it causes to the academic calendar. As per the usual schedule, MBBS and BDS classes for the new batch are expected to begin around September 5. However, with repeated extensions in the counselling, that timeline is now at risk. If the NEET process continues to extend, the academic year will start much later than the schedule. This is not the first time that the delay has happened. In 2022, the MCC started the NEET counselling in October, whereas the NEET counselling for 2021 session was started in January 2022.

@dpradhanbjp Sir, deeply disappointed with MCC. NEET UG counselling has been rescheduled 6 times, one today, in under 4 weeks—is this acceptable? Are competent officials in charge? There’s also growing confusion and concern over a possible scam in NRI seats. @PMOIndia @republic

Dear Sir,
Already MCC has postponed NEET UG counselling 7 times . How many times they will postpone and trouble students and parents . It appears that they dont care for students . It will delay academics and mentally trouble students and parents
Poor planning NEET UGcounselling 2025 causing immense stress. No timely updates from @mccindiaorg or @upneet2025. Students keep checking endlessly with no official word on delays. Request @EduMinOfIndia to ensure accountability.#NEETCounselling #upneetcounseling #YogiAdityanath

Frequent changes in the NEET UG 2025 MCC counselling schedule, which has been revised seven times so far. Such repeated changes raise important questions about the planning, coordination, and governance of the counselling process.

This is very serious matters
The constant extension in the NEET 2025 counselling is proving to be difficult for droppers, students who took a gap year to prepare for the exam. Many droppers enter the year with an intensive preparation plan, appearing for NEET and then utilising the gap between results and the start of classes. However, the delay in the counselling process has disrupted these timelines. With no confirmed college allotment or joining date, such plans remain indefinitely on hold.
For repeaters, the situation is equally frustrating. Many remember the counselling delays of the previous year, when the academic session began much later than expected.
With the extension of the All India Quota counselling, the NEET UG 2025 state counselling has also been extended. States such as Gujarat, MP, UP, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Kerala and Chhattisgarh have also extended the last date of choice filling. On the other hand, the NEET Bihar counselling has been put on hold for the time being. Both AIQ and state counselling are taking much longer than expected, and students from all categories are stuck waiting.
If this year’s academic session is delayed, it could push the schedule for the NEET 2026 batch as well. Medical colleges follow a fixed schedule, from first year classes to final exams, followed by the mandatory internship. Each stage is connected to the next, so if a batch starts late, it often means that the entire process will be affected.
