Question: Hello, Dr. Saumya! Congratulations on achieving AIR 4 in NEET SS 2025. Tell us something about yourself and your studies.
Dr Saumya: Thank you sir! It's hard to believe but I am happy. I completed my MBBS degree from MP Shah Medical College, Jamnagar. I have done my postgraduation in General Medical from B J Medical College, Ahmedabad.
Question: What inspired you to take Medical Oncology?
Dr Saumya: Well, deciding to study internal medicine after MBBS was easy for me. From my internship days I knew that I have to go with internal medicine but taking it to one particular branch was difficult for me. Till my university exam, I felt I will only stay with MD Medicine and will not take any Super Specialty exam. But later I learnt about Medical Oncology and I have also lost my grandparents due to cancer. So I decided to appear for the NEET SS 2025 exam from the Medical Oncology group.
Question: How was your exposure in Medical Oncology in BJMC?
Dr Saumya: We do get rotations but during my time I was getting district regional posting at the time when my Oncology posting was scheduled. So, I was not able to attend. I gave NEET SS in the previous session also and secured 226 rank. With this rank, I was not getting Tata Memorial or GCRI options so I chose to go ahead with my bond service. After appearing for INI CET exam a month back, I took off from my bond duties, prepared for NEET SS 2025 exam and appeared for the test. So, I don’t have much practical exposure to Medical Oncology.
Question: How was the NEET SS exam different compared to last year?
Dr Saumya: NEET SS 2025 was completely different from last year’s exam. Topics that were asked as one-liner questions last year were covered in a full-fledged manner this time, making the paper highly unpredictable. Questions were mainly focused on head and neck onco part.
Question; How did you prepare for NEET SS 2025, considering the exam was unpredictable?
Dr Saumya: My preparation focused on building strong conceptual clarity rather than relying on one-liner facts. I followed a revision plan, made notes and gave GTs to assess my understanding. Since the exam pattern was unpredictable, consistent revision and conceptual learning played a key role in handling such questions confidently.
Question: What advice would you give to future NEET SS aspirants?
Dr Saumya: NEET SS is not about studying everything. So, understand the concepts, revise, give mock tests and believe in your preparation. That’s all I will say.
