Biology is considered one of the easiest sections in the NEET exam:
Here are some NEET biology previous year questions to give an idea about the NEET exam level.
Q. 1 The Correct sequence of phases in the cell cycle is:
Option 1: $\mathrm{M} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{~S}$
Option 2: $\mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{~S} \rightarrow \mathrm{M}$
Option 3: $\mathrm{S} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{M}$
Option 4: $\mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{~S} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{M}$
The correct answer is option 4) $\mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{~S} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{M}$
Solution:
Interphase -
Interphase represents the phase between two successive M-phases.
wherein
The interphase lasts more than 95% of the duration of the cell cycle, also called the resting phase.
The cell cycle is divided into two phases: interphase and M- M-phase. During interphase, the cell grows and makes a copy of its DNA. During the M phase, the cell separates its DNA into two sets and divides its cytoplasm forming two new cells. Interphase is divided into three subphases i.e. G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase. Thus, the sequence of the phase of the cell cycle is $\mathrm{G} 1 \rightarrow \mathrm{~S} \rightarrow \mathrm{G} 2 \rightarrow \mathrm{M}$
Q. 2 The fruit fly has 8 chromosomes $(2 n=8)$ in each cell. During the interphase of mitosis, if the number of chromosomes in the $G_1$
Option 1: 8
Option 2: 16
Option 3: 4
Option 4: 32
Solution:
The correct option is (1).
During the $S$ phase, DNA replication occurs, but the number of chromosomes remains unchanged because chromosomes are counted based on the number of centromeres.
Given:
Number of chromosomes in the
After the $S$ phase, DNA content doubles, but chromosome number remains the same
Therefore,
Number of chromosomes after the
phase = 8
Hence, the correct answer is Option 1 (8).
